This position serves as a Local Area Network (LAN) Data Center (DC) Network Engineer performing highly complex professional, advisory, and technical functions for enterprise network infrastructure and security implementations. In this role you will serve as a technical expert in Enterprise Data Center Network Architecture, layer 2 and layer 3 switching design, and enterprise network security applications. In addition, you will confer with customers to troubleshoot complex network systems, end-user communication problems, system intrusions, and network hardware and software failures. This position also serves as a technical project coordinator and analyst for design, development, and modification of highly complex network communications solutions for multi-tiered applications and server farm interactions. Essential Functions

  • Under administrative direction, serves as a Local Area Network (LAN) Data Center (DC) Network Engineer for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT), performing complex hardware and software installations and in the design, modification, and development of specifications to complex Data Center network communications, including various network and security components with multiple levels of network redundancy.
  • Meets with users to determine layout and specifications to design, develop, and modify complex network communications, including various LAN components such as routers, switches, internet gateways, and cabling, etc.
  • Configures, tests, and maintains various make and models of LAN switches, routers, network authentication systems and internet gateways, including designing, installing, and maintaining network cabling.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the information technology field by continuing education through online training platforms, meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on products, vendors, techniques, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with course work in computer science or directly related fields.
  • Requires three (3) years of professional experience in Network Services or a related Information Technology field.


Specialized Skills

  • Requires three (3) years of professional experience with Layer 2 switching, Layer 3 routing, Data center switching architecture, Data center capacity planning, Local Area Network (LAN) design and VLAN design, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), IP address management, and Quality of Service (QOS), including performing complex network configuration, developing network standards, and conducting analytical reviews in a multi-tiered Data Center environment.
  • Requires three (3) years of professional experience with Access List configuration, Domain Name Services (DNS), and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), including troubleshooting complex end-user communication issues and utilizing network monitoring and diagnostic tools to validate configuration integrity.
  • Requires three (3) years of professional experience with Cloud Computing, Internet gateways, Network security, Internet Protocol Security (IPSEC), and network authentication, including implementing secure network architectures, supporting multi-tiered applications, and maintaining security configurations across Data Center network environments.
  • Requires three (3) years of professional experience with traffic analyzers (Sniffers), Network Diagnostic and Management Tool Integration, Video over IP, and Voice over IP (VoIP), including the use of packet analyzers, network monitoring systems, and integrated diagnostic utilities to troubleshoot and optimize Data Center network communications.


Preferred Qualifications (In order of significance)

  • Three (3) years of professional experience with Layer 2 switching, Layer 3 routing, Data center switching architecture, Data center capacity planning, Local Area Network (LAN) design and VLAN design, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), IP address management, and Quality of Service (QOS), including performing complex network configuration, developing network standards, and conducting analytical reviews in a multi-tiered Data Center environment.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience with Access List configuration, Domain Name Services (DNS), and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), including troubleshooting complex end-user communication issues and utilizing network monitoring and diagnostic tools to validate configuration integrity.

  • Three (3) years of professional experience analyzing or diagnosing system issues and coordinating efforts to resolve them, including troubleshooting Data Center network hardware and software problems, conferring with customers in high-stress situations, and escalating time-sensitive incidents to ensure timely resolution.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex network problems independently.
  • Ability to analyze data logically and exercise sound judgement in defining and evaluating problems of an operational or procedural nature.
  • Ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, clients, and others.
  • Developed verbal and written communication skills to present technical information clearly and precisely to diverse audiences, including business users, development teams, agency executives, and others.
  • Certifications in one or more of the following: Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP Enterprise, Security, or Data Center), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST Networking or Cybersecurity), CompTIA Security, CompTIA Network+, or other similarly related Cisco Network or Information Security certifications.
