Job Summary:
This opening is for the Laboratory. Responsible for coordinating daily lab activities so as to meet business objections. General expectations include staying focused on identified goals and drive results; set clear expectations for team; coach, develop and motivate team; hold employees accountable and keep team informed by ensuring effective inter and intra department communication.

This position will be Monday - Friday 1 PM - 10 PM.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure effective employee relations by providing employee coaching, corrective action and development. Makes employment decisions. Resolves employee issues through problem resolution.
  • Provides direct leadership to the plant's lab department through the Lab Foreman.
  • Manages departmental performance measures, including visual controls and provides regular progress reports to manager.
  • Must exercise continuous leadership to focus plant efforts on shifting priorities.
  • Responsible for assisting in the training and development of production employees and ensuring that they comply with all SOP's.
  • Plan and direct production activities and establish production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
  • Verify Critical Control Points

Education and Experience:
  • Requires a 4 year degree in Food Science or related field and/or 1-2 years of related lab manufacturing experience, preferably in a dairy manufacturing environment.

Skills and Competencies:
  • Must exhibit working knowledge of in-plant and regulatory audits and inspection, sampling and testing programs required, operations of equipment and plant, etc.
  • Balances quality, productivity, cost, safety and morale to achieve positive results in all areas.
  • Must not only have troubleshooting skills, but also be able to lead in problem resolution in order to ensure that all products and processes are continuously improving.
  • Must know MS Office suite, Knowledge of LogPro and Workforce Management payroll system preferred.
  • Maintaining food safety and food quality through completing job tasks and maintaining work areas in a sanitary manner; maintaining the cleaning and sanitation programs; ensure biosecurity procedures are followed; report food safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action; maintain Master List of Documents for Sanitation and Production and be a member of the SQF and Ethical Sourcing Program Management Team and support continuous improvement of the program.
  • Plant Manager/Warehouse Manager/Quality Assurance Manager is trained in all aspects of the Shift Manager - Training Job description and able to perform coverage in this position as needed.
