What You Will Do

This Position is open for both internal and external candidates to apply.

We are seeking a Nuclear Facilities Engineering Manager 5 / Deputy Division Leader to help guide the division's mission and support the Division Leader in operational and strategic leadership.

Roles and responsibilities include:
  • Collaborating with internal and external partners at all levels to define, coordinate, and execute cross-organizational objectives that advance mission delivery.
  • Developing tactical and strategic plans, ensuring disciplined execution, and monitoring progress toward long-term mission and customer goals.
  • Fostering open communication and a strong questioning attitude culture where employees and subcontractors feel empowered to raise issues, highlight system vulnerabilities, and report errors.
  • Overseeing nuclear design execution to ensure facilities are designed, constructed, and modified safely, compliantly, cost-effectively, and in accordance with mission needs.
  • Managing project, field, systems, and subject-matter expert engineering resources to support delivery of ALDPI projects.
  • Ensuring consistent, effective, and maturing implementation of Conduct of Engineering (CoE) and Configuration Management within the ALDPI portfolio in LANL's Plutonium Facility.
  • Supporting the Division Leader in establishing and controlling technical baselines, ensuring effective nuclear safety basis implementation, and evaluating overall engineering and operational performance.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing large, complex technical organizations involving support to nuclear facilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Department of Energy (DOE) Orders and Standards, national consensus codes and standards, quality requirements, and other regulations governing nuclear facilities.
  • Proven ability to execute and oversee engineering work in nuclear facilities, including experience with design, construction, operations and modifications in high-hazard environments.
  • Demonstrated experience working with government agencies and senior-level stakeholders, including DOE/NNSA and internal Laboratory leadership.
  • Strong administrative and operational leadership skills, including experience in budgeting, resource planning, staffing, performance management, and organizational development.
  • Demonstrated ability to make and implement cross-cutting, institutionally aligned decisions, resolve cross-organizational conflicts, and coordinate execution across diverse technical teams.
  • Expert-level knowledge of enterprise operational systems, including procurement, project development, construction and quality assurance.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a record of building effective relationships, negotiating agreements, and representing organizational work to internal and external partners.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful workplace and promoting open communication, accountability, and continuous improvement.


Education/Experience

Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 12 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. A professional license (PE) in an engineering discipline from a recognized licensing board preferred.

DOE Order 426.2 Requirements: Requires a bachelor of science degree in engineering or related science, and 4 years nuclear experience. Education or experience that is job related may be substituted on a case-by-case basis. The degree may fulfill 3 of the 4 years of nuclear experience on a one-for-one time basis

Desired Qualifications:
  • Extensive knowledge of LANL activities and nuclear operations including project execution and management, legal, procurement, construction, environmental safety and health (ES&H), and quality assurance.
  • Knowledge/experience of LANL Engineering Standards Manual; LANL Conduct of Engineering procedures; and DOE Orders and Standards related to nuclear facility design, construction, and project management.

Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management .
