As a member of a Geointelligence project team you will initially be assigned to work on the ground segment of one of several large satellite mission programs at MDA Space. You will work as part of a technical team to develop new capabilities, enhance existing capabilities and deliver solutions to our customers.

The RoleWe are looking for a
Junior Systems Engineer - Satellite Ground Segment in our Geointelligence Engineering Team at our
Richmond office.
As part of the Ground Segment Systems Engineering team, the individual will work with other engineers in a multi-disciplinary team environment to create and deliver engineering solutions to control satellites, downlink imagery and telemetry, process imagery, create value-added products and process orders from our customers in a cost-effective way.
ResponsibilitiesAs a Junior Systems Engineer - Satellite Ground Segment, you may have a wide range of responsibilities that include:
- tracing customer requirements to conceptual designs and preparing associated documentation;
- contributing to decomposition of requirements and interface control documents (ICDs);
- performing technical engineering tasks, such as operational analyses and trade-off studies, to define system design and subsystem details;
- devising solutions for creating and delivering systems and subsystem features;
- working with MDA's software development teams to build and test operational features;
- participating in integration and testing of system level features;
- revising and maintaining various system models in Excel, Matlab, Python, etc.;
You will support intermediate and senior engineers in the above tasks and have opportunities for career growth.
Required Experience- Bachelor's degree in Systems, Software or Computer Engineering or Engineering Physics;
- Have familiarity with:
- Matlab or similar analysis tools;
- MS Excel, for the purpose of engineering analyses; and
- Python, Java, Go, or a similar programming language;
- Familiarity with modern software development methodology, tools, and software specification;
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Possess excellent problem solving skills;
- Be a self-starter with the ability to perform in a dynamic working environment; and
- Have a team-friendly attitude and willingness to learn.
While not mandatory, candidates will benefit from any of the following:
- Prior involvement in development of cloud-based applications;
- Understanding of different types of engineering life cycles as applicable from large complex programs to software development;
- Familiarity with satellite remote sensing or earth observation;
- Familiarity with orbital mechanics, satellite communications, spacecraft design and operation considerations; or
- Familiarity with machine learning / deep learning.
Comments/Special Considerations:Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the
SECRET level and pass security assessment for the
Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
The compensation range for this position is
$76,000 - $87,000 annually. The specific compensation offered will be based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
