Full Job Description
The Work

LAUSD's Facilities Environmental Technical Unit (FETU) manages the environmental side of school construction and repair: asbestos abatement and lead remediation that has to happen before campuses can be demolished, renovated, or repaired. As the Junior M&O Project Manager, you help plan, coordinate, and expedite these projects across schools, administrative buildings, and other District facilities.

You are the liaison among the District's project management units, the Maintenance and Operations areas, environmental consultants, and abatement contractors. You review Requests for Assistance with FETU technical staff to set the scope, review project drawings, prepare funding request packages, and request and evaluate cost proposals from environmental consultants for accuracy and viability.

Day to day you initiate and execute abatement work through A&B, task order, and JOC contracts, schedule lead and asbestos abatements around demolition, renovation, and the temporary housing of students and staff, review contractor submittals, daily logs, and certified payroll to approve invoices, analyze change orders, run the bid and contract award process, and support closeout and certification. You keep the FETU tracking sheet current and document job start meetings.
What You Will Own
• Planning, coordinating, processing, and expediting FETU projects across District facilities
• Liaison duties among project management units, M&O areas, environmental consultants, and abatement contractors
• RFA scope reviews with FETU technical staff, project drawing reviews, and funding request packages
• Cost proposal requests and reviews, and abatement cost estimates with technical personnel
• Execution of asbestos abatement and lead remediation through A&B, task order, and JOC contracts
• Abatement scheduling around demolitions, renovations, and temporary student and staff housing
• Invoice approval through review of submittals, daily logs, and certified payroll
• Change order merit and cost analysis, bid processing, and contract award coordination
• Project tracking, job start meeting minutes, and closeout and certification support

• A bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or an environmental field; or, without a degree, additional experience on a year-for-year basis
• The organization to run funding, contracts, invoicing, and scheduling across many small, fast-moving projects at once
Preferred
• Construction safety protocols, Cal OSHA requirements, and environmental procedures
• Asset and work management systems, specifically Maximo
