The Opportunity

Our dynamic and collaborative team is looking for a Junior Bridges & Marine Engineer (EIT) in our Nanaimo office in British Columbia.

This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of Marine and Bridge design, inspection, evaluation, and construction support projects across Western Canada.

What You'll Do
  • Complete inspections of bridges and marine structures across British Columbia, in locations such as the Lower Mainland, Northern BC, the Gulf Islands, the Discovery Islands, and Haida Gwaii.
  • Be involved onsite providing construction supervision and support during active construction of bridges and marine infrastructure. Working with contractors through changing site conditions to develop creative solutions in a timely manner to suit site conditions.
  • Work through the whole life cycle of a project, from preliminary concept studies, through preliminary design, detailed design, tender, and construction.
  • Collaborate in multidisciplinary teams through various stages of projects to deliver cost effective and efficient solutions for clients.
  • Complete the detailed design of steel, concrete, timber, and aluminum structures.
  • Interface with the drafting team to produce high-quality project deliverables for our clients.
  • Assess existing structures and complete load evaluations to understand the remaining structural capacity, define the future use, estimate the remaining service life, or inform the replacement of the structures.
  • Write reports required for summarizing inspections, load evaluations, or concept studies.
  • Communicate and work in an integrated team environment to generate creative solutions to problems that will have a lasting impact on our clients, stakeholders, and communities.


What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, with a focus or demonstrated interest in structural engineering; 0 - 4years of experience in design and analysis.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) registered or eligible for registration in BC. The successful candidate will be directly supervised by a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered in BC.
  • Proven experience applying relevant local and national design codes; familiarity with the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code and BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure standards is an asset.
  • Knowledge of seismic design principles and performance-based engineering; a master's degree in structural engineering is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and professionally.
  • Strong initiative, with the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license.
  • Willingness to travel for remote field work, including out-of-town trips involving overnight stays; inspection durations may vary from a few days to, on occasion, multiple weeks.
  • Availability to work occasional night shifts to accommodate closure windows for bridges and ferry terminals and to capture specific tides, with fatigue management supported through appropriate rest periods.

The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $95,000 per annum.
