Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is looking for an astute accountant to join our team as an Accounting Supervisor II. The controller oversees the ACI Accounting Department, managing a team of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, ensuring they receive proper training, resources, and performance feedback. The role is responsible for the full accounting cycle, including financial statement preparation, monthly reconciliations, period opens and closes, internal controls, and GAAP compliance. It involves supervising accountants and bookkeepers, reviewing complex financial reports, resolving accounting issues, supporting budgeting, and working with vendors and customers.

Job Duties:

- Manages the operations of the Accounting team to ensure timely and accurate financial statements, account reconciliations, and the overall accounting cycle
- Establishes, maintains, and monitors the financial period closing process, provides direction and feedback, monitors results, and implements improvements
- Works with Accounting staff and inmates to provide technical guidance, training, and support
- Monitors the efficiency of ACI's accounting system
- Develops and delivers accounting training programs and work papers, as needed
- Attends personnel meetings to ensure coordination of efforts in maintaining the accounting system
- Develops and maintains policies, procedures, and scorecard measures pertaining to Accounting operations
- Implements corrective actions as necessary to manage performance and meet expectations
- Develops financial reports for management and staff
- Reviews and approves sales tax returns and oversees the ITIN process
- Reviews, analyzes, and interprets laws, policies, and procedures related to accounting and finance, to ensure GAAP compliance
- Develops and implements changes as appropriate to ensure accurate and timely payment of wages and other disbursements
- Answers accounting policy questions
- Keeps CFO informed of pertinent issues
- Manages AZ360 to GL reconciliations to ensure accuracy of all payments, receipts, and corrections
- Monitors AR and AP accounts along with other expenses to ensure proper amounts and accounts are used
- Monitors reports for errors and assigns corrective actions as needed
- Drives on State business
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Accounting software and database management
- Principles, concepts, practices, methods, and techniques of government accounting
- Methods and techniques of an automated accounting system
- Reference materials such as federal regulations, Arizona Revised Statutes (ARS), applicable agency manuals, policies, and procedures
- Management and leadership techniques
- Various accounting, payroll, and efficiency systems such as AZ360, ACIS, Keeptrack, EPICOR, and Smartsheets

Selective Preference(s):

- Bachelor's degree or three (3) years of experience in systems administration (or equivalent experience)
