The Role: This role is the Integrated Test, Evaluation and Acceptance (ITEA) and Trials Engineer, who is responsible for assigned OMNIA ITEA and Trials activities on behalf of the Configuring Service.
Reporting: This position reports directly to the ITEA & Trials Lead Engineer.
Job Description: As a member of the Integration, Test, Evaluation, and Acceptance (ITEA) team, you will contribute to the rigorous testing, verification, and validation of new and updated Products, Services, and Systems (PSS). Working under the guidance of the ITEA Lead, your efforts will support the smooth transition of capabilities into the ACTS service, ensuring alignment with Defence architectural standards, safety requirements, and interoperability goals.
You will assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of structured testing and trials as part of the Verification, Trial, and Experimentation Plan (VTEP). Your work will help confirm that solutions meet defined capability and integration requirements. This role offers the opportunity to work within advanced test environments and collaborate with engineering, acquisition, and operational teams across Defence. You will play an important part in validating capability performance, supporting system interoperability, and ensuring readiness for service across next-generation simulation training systems.
Responsibilies & Tasks: Trial Planning & Execution: - Execute the Verification, Trial and Experimentation Plan (VTEP)
- Develop the Integrated Test, Evaluation and Acceptance Plan (ITEAP) from the VTEP, including:
- Subordinate Test and Trials Plans
- Capability Integration Plans
- Stakeholder analysis
- Data capture and reporting strategies
- Resource requirements (tools, equipment, data, personnel)
Capability Integration & Testing: - Ensure all PSS align with architectural frameworks, including:
- Compliance and enhancement of the ACTS Technology Roadmap
- Generic Base Architecture (GBA)
- Generic Vehicle Architecture (GVA)
- Generic Soldier Architecture (GSA)
- Verify system interoperability with:
- Existing and legacy systems
- Other ACTS services and data sources
- Directed external dependencies
Trials & Acceptance: - Conduct progressive testing and trials including:
- Pilot / Concept Trials
- Initial Integration Trials
- User Acceptance Trials (UAT)
- Leverage the testing environment to:
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE
- Validate interoperability and integration
- Support Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) blended simulation environments
- Enable dynamic injects, performance analysis, and After-Action Reviews (AARs)
- Participate in and support:
- Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
- Critical Design Reviews (CDR)
- Safety and Environmental compliance testing
- Produce and deliver:
- Acceptance Case Reports (ACRs)
- Trial Reports
- Safety & Environmental Case Reports
Governance & Lifecycle Support: - Support governance of ITEA activities across the capability lifecycle.
- Ensure access to and configuration of engineering information and test evidence across the PSS lifecycle.
- Validate PSS against ISO 44001-aligned acquisition and supply chain management principles.
Skills: Required: - Degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Defence Technology, or a related discipline.
- Experience in Test & Evaluation, System Integration, or Trials Engineering in a Defence, or similar environment.
- Demonstrated experience in executing trials.
- Analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and cooperatively in a distributed team
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Knowledge and confidence in technical publications
- Combined Arms Tactical Trainer (CATT) Virtual Battlespace (VBS), Tactical Engagement Simulation (TES), Command and Staff Trainer (CAST) Combined Arms Virtual Dismounted (CAV-D)(V).
- Understanding of the Strategic Defence Review (SDR 2025)
Desirable: - Experience with open training and simulation standards:
- High-Level Architecture (HLA)
- Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS)
- UCATT, MILES, or similar systems
- Knowledge of CT systems, mission training tools, and synthetic environments.
- Familiarity with the UK MOD Land Industrial Strategy, acquisition lifecycle, and ITEA governance models (e.g. Knowledge in Defence (KiD), Defence Equipment and Support processes (DE&S).
- Experience with Defence architectural compliance (e.g. GBA, GSA, GVA) and capability development frameworks, or equivalent.
- Postgraduate qualifications or certification in Systems Engineering (e.g., INCOSE), Test & Evaluation, or Program Management.
- Previous defence experience
