IT Solution Architect, Materials Management & Sourcing

Job Description:

About the Role:

We have an exciting opportunity for an IT Solution Architect, Materials Management & Sourcing, to join our Information Technology team based out of our corporate office in Oak Brook, IL. The IT Solution Architect, Materials Management & Sourcing, is a senior technical and functional architecture role, responsible for defining, governing, and continuously evolving the ERP-based procurement and e-Procurement platform landscape across the full Source-to-Pay (S2P) process domain. The role carries equal weight across two dimensions: deep ERP Purchasing and Inventory Management ownership spanning purchasing operations, MRP-driven procurement, invoice verification, and master data and S2P platform architecture through the company's e-Procurement suite and its integration into the ERP environment.

This role is the primary decision-maker for solution design within this domain, sets the architectural standards that delivery teams work within, and is accountable for ensuring the long-term integrity, scalability, and fitness of the S2P technology landscape. Success requires broad architectural thinking, deep ERP functional expertise, strong integration command, and the ability to engage credibly with Procurement, Finance, and Plant Operations leadership while influencing technology direction in partnership with the PMO and Digital Engineering and Automation team.

You'll add value to this role by performing various functions including, but not limited to:

  • Gather and translate business requirements across ERP Purchasing, Inventory Management, and e-Procurement domains including purchasing workflows, inventory movements, invoice processing, source determination, and supplier onboarding into detailed functional and technical designs.
  • Maintain and support the operational integrity of ERP Materials Management, ensuring purchase requisitions, purchase orders, goods receipts, and invoice verification transactions process accurately and without manual intervention.
  • Own the data bridge between strategic sourcing contracts and ERP purchasing master data (info records, outline agreements, source lists), ensuring negotiated savings are consistently realized during day-to-day operational buying.
  • Oversee the technical synchronization of Vendor, Material, and Commodity master data across the ERP and e-Procurement platforms to ensure reporting accuracy, purchasing compliance, and audit readiness.
  • Support the stability of MRP-driven procurement processes, ensuring that planning outputs translate accurately into purchasing execution and inventory valuation within the ERP environment.
  • Maintain working knowledge of how EDI-originated transactions (purchase orders, order confirmations, ASNs, and invoices) interact with ERP Purchasing; support diagnosis and resolution of EDI-related failures at the ERP boundary in coordination with the integration and trading partner teams.
  • Serve as the Level 3/4 functional escalation point for S2P-related IT incidents; perform root-cause analysis on stuck transactions or interface failures and validate service restoration with business partners.
  • Identify, prioritize, and define automation opportunities across the procurement cycle - translating business pain points into actionable requirements and functional specifications - partnering closely with the Digital Engineering and Automation team, who own technical delivery.
  • Architect and own the end-to-end solution design for S2P transformation and enhancement initiatives defining the approach, governing functional quality, and driving delivery from requirements through go-live in partnership with the PMO team for project management structure and cross-workstream coordination.
  • Lead design and quality reviews across the S2P solution landscape; own urgency, impact, and risk assessment for change requests affecting the ERP and e-Procurement environment and ensure all changes are documented and implemented in accordance with Change Advisory Board (CAB) processes.
  • Define and steward the architectural standards, integration patterns, and platform governance principles for the S2P domain ensuring solution decisions made across delivery teams, vendor partners, and business stakeholders align with the long-term technology direction.
  • Mentor and guide team members and functional analysts within the S2P domain, building capability in ERP configuration, integration design, and procurement process knowledge across the broader IT organization.
