IT Server Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, configuration, implementation, security, and maintenance of Meritus Health's enterprise server infrastructure. This includes Storage Area Networks (SANs), Microsoft Active Directory, VMware, cloud environments, SQL databases, ForcePoint, M365, and other core application services that support a 24/7 healthcare environment.
This role serves as a key technical contributor, partnering with cross-functional IT teams to support multi-tiered incident response, change management, and problem resolution. The Server Systems Engineer must be a self-starter, capable of leading complex projects and ensuring system reliability, security, and performance across the organization.
Key Responsibilities- Server administration - Build, maintain, and troubleshoot physical and virtual servers and appliances; perform server hardening, patching, backup monitoring, performance monitoring, and security monitoring using tools such as BigFix, Veeam, SolarWinds, CrowdStrike, and VMware
- Infrastructure monitoring - Proactively monitor faults, performance, and capacity issues; prepare remediation documentation to minimize downtime
- Active Directory & core services - Assist in managing AD, DNS, certificates, DFS, file services, IIS, ADFS, SQL, Exchange, and Windows application server roles
- Cloud administration - Support migration, administration, and maintenance of AWS, Azure, and M365 environments
- Backup systems - Implement and oversee large-scale backup systems using deduplication, replication, and snapshot technologies; maintain onsite/offsite backups, review logs, document recovery plans, and deploy new backup solutions
- SAN management - Configure and administer SAN environments, including storage migrations, provisioning, and code updates
- Remote access technologies - Support MFA, VDI, VPN, and SecureLink; maintain documentation for design, configuration, implementation, change management, and knowledgebase entries
- Project leadership - Manage multiple priorities, maintain strong organizational practices, and contribute to complex enterprise IT projects
Minimum QualificationsEducation- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience- 5-7 years of hands-on experience administering Microsoft Windows Server or Linux in a healthcare or enterprise environment
- In-depth experience with domain controllers, Active Directory objects, OU structures, GPO administration, PowerShell, DNS, and remote access
- Minimum 5 years of recent hands-on experience with VMware
- Experience administering SQL, implementing SQL clustering, and managing database backups/restoration
- Experience performing Office 365 migrations, including Exchange Online and SharePoint/Teams Online
Licensure / Certification- Microsoft Certified Administrator Expert, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Cybersecurity Expert preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Strong relationship-building, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across IT functional teams
- In-depth technical knowledge of systems hardware, software, and enterprise infrastructure
