The IT Policy/Legislative Specialist plays a critical role in assisting with the interpretation and implementation of IT public policy initiatives, providing strategic support and recommendations to ensure alignment with organizational goals and industry best practices. This position requires strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of IT policies and legislation, and experience in managing software engineering projects.

The IT Policy/Legislative Specialist at Koniag Government Services plays a crucial role in assisting with the interpretation and implementation of IT public policy initiatives, providing strategic support and recommendations to ensure alignment with organizational goals and industry best practices. With strong analytical skills, IT policy expertise, and experience in managing software engineering projects, the ideal candidate will be responsible for tracking legislation, making policy recommendations, collaborating with stakeholders, and ensuring successful policy implementation and compliance with relevant regulations.

Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:

The IT Policy/Legislative Specialist will be responsible for the following tasks:
  • Assist in interpreting and implementing IT public policy initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Provide support in long-term strategy development related to IT policies and legislation, contributing to the formulation of effective and sustainable strategies.
  • Track and monitor relevant legislation and regulatory changes that may impact the organization's IT operations and compliance requirements.
  • Conduct research and analysis to make informed policy recommendations, taking into account the organization's objectives, industry trends, and legal considerations.
  • Meet with clients frequently, often on a daily basis, to relay progress updates, gather feedback, and establish priorities for policy implementation and legislative support.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including legal, compliance, and technical experts, to ensure a comprehensive understanding of IT policy implications and align efforts accordingly.
  • Prepare and present reports, presentations, and briefings to keep stakeholders informed about IT policy developments, legislative changes, and their potential impact on the organization.
  • Serve as the task leader, managing a group of engineers and the full ADP (Automated Data Processing) life cycle in software engineering for a minimum of two years.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks, implementing proactive measures to address issues and ensure successful policy implementation.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies, industry trends, and best practices in IT policy and legislation, and recommend improvements or enhancements when appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Public Policy, or Law.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust

Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in IT policy, legislative support, or an equivalent combination of education and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must possess two (2) years of task leader experience managing a group of engineers and the full ADP life cycle in software engineering.
  • Strong understanding of IT policies, regulations, and legislative processes relevant to the organization's operations.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex information and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
  • Proven organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with industry best practices, standards, and emerging trends in IT policy and legislation.
  • Knowledge of software engineering principles, methodologies, and the ADP life cycle.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Desired Skills and Competencies:
  • Experience with office equipment (e.g. copiers, postage meters, audio/visual)
  • Knowledge of database management, reporting and data entry procedures
  • Basic accounting, bookkeeping and recordkeeping experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
  • Event planning and project coordination experience
