IT Engineer - VTC and Video Systems

Work Arrangement: Hybrid; telework authorized with required onsite support and site visits
Employment Type: Full-time W-2; contingent upon contract award
Pay Rate: $50.14-$52.32 per hour

Position Overview

SMX is seeking an IT Engineer to support USDA videoconferencing, collaboration, and analog and digital video systems. The selected engineer will work under the technical direction of the Senior IT Engineer while independently completing assigned troubleshooting, documentation, maintenance, site-survey, and meeting-support responsibilities.

This role is well suited for an engineer who takes pride in keeping meeting technology reliable and making technical procedures easy for customers and support teams to follow.

Responsibilities
  • Complete technical and documentation assignments under the direction of the Senior IT Engineer.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation for the operation, configuration, testing, and support of VTC and analog and digital video systems.
  • Translate customer needs into technical requirements covering design, testing, transition, operations, maintenance, and continual improvement.
  • Facilitate meeting setup and provide real-time technical assistance.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and support VTC infrastructure across multiple USDA organizations.
  • Develop and update VTC standard operating procedures, configuration instructions, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Perform routine maintenance and operational checks on VTC and related infrastructure.
  • Support large Microsoft Teams and Zoom for Government webinars involving agency leadership.
  • Support controlled lockup meetings where internet access is restricted until an authorized release time.
  • Participate in site surveys for meeting-space renovations.
  • Identify compatible technologies that meet stakeholder needs and USDA IT policies.
  • Support VTC lifecycle planning, demonstrations, testing, and evaluation.
  • Help ensure that deployed equipment remains compatible with USDA Client Experience Center standards.
  • Communicate clearly with customer stakeholders and members of the technical team.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience preparing technical documentation for the operation, configuration, and testing of VTC and analog and digital video systems.
  • Hands-on experience supporting videoconferencing, collaboration platforms, and related audiovisual infrastructure.
  • Experience troubleshooting technical issues in remote and onsite environments.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Teams and Zoom for Government, including large webinars or high-visibility meetings.
  • Experience supporting or participating in meeting-space site surveys.
  • Ability to work under the direction of a lead engineer while independently completing assignments.
  • Knowledge of activity and data modeling, transaction-flow analysis, internal controls, risk analysis, and performance-management practices.
  • Strong written, verbal, troubleshooting, and customer-service skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Residence within a practical commuting distance of the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license and current automobile insurance.

This position is contingent upon contract award, funding, and final customer approval. Any applicable citizenship, background investigation, suitability, or security requirements will be communicated when confirmed.
