Full Job Description
As an IT Architect - DevOps, you will be responsible for enabling reliable, secure, and efficient delivery of Home Hardware's digital platforms and applications, with primary ownership of DevOps and platform practices across the organization's Google Cloud (GCP) environment and secondary support for Azure-based digital solutions where required. Led by the Senior Manager, IT - Digital Platforms, this role suits a highly technical, solution-driven DevOps professional with strong collaboration, communication, and documentation skills, who excels at translating complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical stakeholders while driving secure, scalable, and reliable digital platform delivery. Ready to make an impact in a new role? Here's how: • Lead the administration and continuous improvement of Home Hardware's GCP-based digital environment, including services such as Cloud Run, Cloud Build, Cloud Functions, Cloud Scheduler, Secret Manager, Cloud SQL, IAM, and related platform components. • Design, implement, and maintain secure, reliable CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes that support repeatable build, test, release, and rollback practices across digital applications and environments. • Establish and support infrastructure automation practices, including the introduction and adoption of Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform for cloud resources and platform configuration. • Manage and optimize key supporting platform tools and services, including GitHub and Cloudflare, by improving repository standards, branching and pull request workflows, code security practices, DNS and WAF configuration, caching rules, and related controls. • Monitor platform health, operational performance, cloud usage, and cost trends; identify reliability issues, bottlenecks, and cost-saving opportunities; and recommend or implement improvements. • Partner with development, architecture, security, operations, and product teams to ensure digital platforms and releases meet required standards for security, performance, supportability, and operational readiness. The role acts as a technical enablement function providing standards, tooling, and guidance rather than owning feature delivery. • Provide hands-on technical support for automation, scripting, tooling, and platform-related development work, and contribute to delivery where DevOps or infrastructure expertise is needed. • Support incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident improvements for digital platforms, while helping strengthen monitoring, alerting, documentation, and release readiness processes across the team. We're looking for: • Post secondary education in Information Technology or Computer Science is an asset. • A minimum of five to ten years of progressive experience in DevOps engineering, cloud platform administration, infrastructure automation, and digital platform operations. • Strong hands-on experience administering and supporting Google Cloud Platform environments, including CI/CD, compute/services, secrets management, IAM, and managed database services. • Strong collaboration, communication, and documentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. • Experience designing and maintaining automated deployment pipelines and release processes for cloud-based applications. • Practical knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, ideally using Terraform, to manage and standardize cloud infrastructure. • Experience with GitHub administration and development workflow controls, including branching strategies, pull requests, security alerts, dependency management, and repository health practices. • Experience administering web delivery and edge platform services such as Cloudflare, including DNS, caching, redirect rules, and security/firewall policies. • Strong understanding of observability, operational readiness, monitoring, alerting, and incident response practices for digital platforms. • Ability to perform light programming, scripting, and automation work in support of platform engineering and development teams. • Working knowledge of Azure-based environments and DevOps practices, with the ability to support teams operating within a multi-cloud delivery model. • The ability to be onsite three days a week at our corporate office in St. Jacobs, to accommodate our hybrid working model.
