Full Job Description

Under the supervision of the Docket Supervisor, the Docket Specialist will be responsible for coordinating and maintaining all areas of the patent computerized docket system. The Docket Specialist will also have daily contact with and receive guidance from the practice group lawyers and staff they support.

Morgan Lewis recognizes the benefits of supporting flexible working arrangements.  This position can reside in either of the following locations: San Francisco, Silicon Valley (Palo Alto), Orange County (Costa Mesa), Century City, Los Angeles, Seattle, Houston, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Washington D.C., with a hybrid in-office/remote working schedule. Flexibility to work overtime is preferred.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating all areas of the CPI docketing database.

  • Processing information pertaining to each specific application and docket due dates, and remarks from incoming domestic, foreign client related communications as well as USPTO communications filed in the Patent office.

  • Processing delivery of incoming electronic communications pursuant to departmental procedures.

  • Providing docket, status, and maintenance reports to patent personnel and lawyers.

  • Monitor patent daily dockets and provide call up services to attorneys and other patent team members as necessary to clear final dates

  • Generate new patent matter number request reports

Experience and qualifications:

  • High school diploma and a minimum of one (1) year of docketing experience or equivalent knowledge of patent processes

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel)

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and exceptional attention to detail

  • Time-management and organizational skills to prioritize work and handle multiple projects simultaneously

  • Ability to work well under pressure in a collaborative team environment

For positions in Century City, Los Angeles, and Orange County CA, the salary range for this position is: $67,400- $107,825.00.

For positions in Boston, MA and Chicago, IL, the salary range for this position is: $62,000.00 - $99,200.00.

For positions in Seattle, WA and Washington, D.C., the salary range for this position is: $64,700.00 - $103,475.00.

For positions in San Francisco and Silicon Valley, CA, the salary range for this position is: $70,070.00 - $112,093.00.

The base salary wage range for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. The foregoing salary range applies only to the specific available position advertised herein. The total compensation package for this position will also include eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus. Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans and policies then in effect, eligible employees may enroll in: a 401(k) plan, as well as participate in Company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, life, disability, accidental death and dismemberment, business travel accident insurance plans, and health savings and flexible spending accounts for the employee and the employee’s eligible dependents. Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans and policies then in effect, eligible employees may utilize the Employee Assistance Program, Work/Life Services, Health Advocate, Bright Horizons Back-Up Child Care, and WageWorks Commuter Benefits for the employee and the employee’s eligible dependents. Employees will also receive: 9 paid holidays per calendar year, 2 personal days per year, and up to 20 days of vacation per year. Eligible employees may also take up to five days off for bereavement leave, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave per year and up to 10 weeks of paid pregnancy disability leave per pregnancy.
