The Investment Officer will work closely with external clients and partners, as well as WBG teams across regions and disciplines.
Duties and Accountabilities:
The responsibilities of the Investment Officer will include but are not limited to:
• Supporting the delivery of WKDAX's Access and Affordability workplan, taking a leading role, to develop and implement solutions as laid out under the WBG Digital Strategy Implementation Plan, with guidance from senior members of the team.
• Serve as an investment lead supporting WBG management and teams globally on transaction structuring, business development, and execution.
• Identify and design innovative, replicable, and scalable investment solutions (spanning new partners, business models, and financing structures), deploying the WBG product suite to address digital access and affordability gaps in emerging markets, in partnership with other WBG teams and external partners.
• Review WBG and IFC projects and provide guidance to project teams on structuring, market insights, and risk assessment and mitigation.
• Support the design of WBG-led events with sectoral focus or external industry event participations to strengthen the WBG's sectoral network and discussions with stakeholders around critical issues to deliver on the WBG Digital Strategy.
• Lead and support client relationship management, working with global client relationship managers to drive engagement and business development across the digital sector.
• Lead WBG's work in sub-sectors and/or cross-cutting initiatives, including being the primary contact point with regional and functional departments.
• Contribute to knowledge development efforts and knowledge sharing across WBG's regional sector groups, with a focus on supporting business development, market creation, and solution delivery.
• Support junior staff recruitment, and mentor and coach less-experienced staff to build talent and grow the team's skill base.
Selection Criteria
• MBA or Master's degree in finance, economics, or a related field; CFA designation is a plus.
• At least 8+ years of relevant experience, preferably including several years at a development finance institution.
• Extensive experience in the digital access and affordability sector, with a strong track record across origination, structuring, and transaction execution in developing countries.
• Experience with a broad range of IFC investment products, including debt, equity, trade and supply chain finance, and blended finance structures.
• Demonstrated ability to assess sector challenges from both public and private sector perspectives, and to translate that judgment into scalable, replicable investment solutions.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proven leadership capabilities to initiate and drive project implementation independently and deliver results under competing priorities.
• Ability to work effectively in multicultural teams across organizational and geographic boundaries, and to provide guidance, supervision, and quality control to junior team members.
• Ability to engage directly and independently with senior management of clients, partners, and government officials.
• Genuine interest in the WBG and IFC's mission, strategy, and values; committed to the highest ethical standards.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and present with confidence.
