Description
The Employee Relations Section of the Human Resources Division is responsible for all matters involving personnel functions for employees of the Office of the City Attorney. In this role the selected candidate will be responsible for conducting investigations into employee complaints, grievances, potential violations of policy and/or law, and other matters related to employee relations.

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Chief Employee Relations Specialist, the Investigator will conduct sensitive personnel and administrative investigations. The Investigator will be responsible for:
  • Conducting thorough, neutral, and prompt workplace investigations involving employee complaints, grievances, alleged policy violations, and other personnel matters;
  • Developing investigation plans, identifying relevant issues and witnesses, conducting interviews, and gathering and evaluating documentary and other evidence;
  • Reviewing and applying applicable labor and employment laws, Personnel Policies, Collective Bargaining Agreements , and other applicable laws, codes and policies;
  • Managing several investigations simultaneously and providing information, as needed, on the status of investigations;
  • Presenting investigative findings to Human Resources and appropriate management personnel and testifying in administrative or legal proceedings when necessary;
  • Assisting Human Resources with employee relations matters, including grievances, Requests for Information, disciplinary documentation, and related personnel matters, as assigned; and
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience conducting workplace , administrative, or employment-related investigations;
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive personnel matters;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and work both independently and as part of a team; and
  • Experience utilizing a PC with common software applications.

Current Location

City Hall East, 200 N. Main Street, Los Angeles. Position is subject to assignment at any location of the Office of the Los Angeles City Attorney.

This position requires regular onsite work. Employer-provided parking is limited and may not be available for this classification. Employees may be responsible for securing and paying for parking at nearby facilities.
