72About the RoleThe International Student Immigration Advisor oversees the on-going development and implementation of University-wide immigration-related policies, procedures and retention-focused services that are aligned with the University's strategic international enrollment management plans, while ensuring the University's compliance with immigration law and related government agencies. The role provides counsel to the University community on the interpretation of the Immigration Act and its regulations pertaining to the recruitment and retention of international undergraduate, graduate, visiting research and exchange students.

QualificationsBachelor's degree in Business Administration, or a related discipline, and five years of related experience in areas such as in international education programming and student advising, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must meet the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada requirements for certification as an Immigration Representative and active member with the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC) as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) or Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA).
- Excellent knowledge of Canadian immigration law, regulations and policies as they pertain to international students, workers, and their accompanying family members.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, communication, interview, and intercultural skills. Excellent group leadership and facilitation skills.
- Ability to think strategically and lead the design and implementation of immigration compliance policies.
- Ability to exercise mature judgment, initiative, diplomacy, and tact.
- Proficient in the use of student information systems, software applications and social media (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation applications, Instagram and SFU CANVAS).
