We are looking for a talented intermediate process mechanical engineer focused on the planning and engineering design of municipal and industrial water/wastewater conveyance projects who wants to be part of a purpose-driven organization that's focused on helping our clients, colleagues and communities thrive. In this role, you will join the Burnaby, British Columbia office, supporting projects in across British Columbia as well as throughout Western Canada. The role of water and wastewater conveyance engineer and project manager with our Water Team is a dynamic position well suited to an individual who is good at managing multiple tasks and deadlines and working with multi-disciplinary teams. The candidate should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer process and mechanical systems or products for a project, and will perform a variety of tasks which may include hydraulic calculations, design sketches and concepts, report preparation and field work.

Projects assigned may be broad, varied and diverse in scope. Our group is involved in a wide range of water, wastewater and stormwater conveyance infrastructure projects including everything from small wastewater lift stations, drinking water booster pump stations and large drainage pump stations. You will primarily be working on water and wastewater conveyance, storage and pumping station related projects through collaboration with a wide range of technical disciplines.

The successful candidate will be someone with strong leadership and communication skills, market knowledge, business acumen combined with innovative ideas, and a successful history of client relations and account management.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Lead as Process-Mechanical Lead acting as Professional of Record and Qualified Professional for municipal and industrial projects.
  • Provide technical direction and foster collaboration across multidisciplinary teams to achieve project excellence.
  • Mentor junior and intermediate staff, cultivating a culture of learning and innovation.
  • Drive client engagement and strategic business development, contributing to proposals and building lasting relationships.
  • Oversee budgets, schedules, and quality assurance processes to ensure successful project delivery
  • Consistently demonstrate a commitment to the Health and Safety culture within Stantec.
  • Work with the Sector Leaders and Stantec's many multidiscipline operations centers in Western Canada to support their needs on process mechanical engineering projects.
  • Manage projects of varying complexity within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Assist business leaders in project revenue forecasting.
  • Manage technical tasks including completing design work, calculations, equipment sizing and selection, writing specifications and technical reports, and performing feasibility studies on a wide range of municipal infrastructure projects generally involving water/wastewater/stormwater infrastructure. Projects may include: - Water storage reservoirs, water and wastewater treatment facilities, distribution systems, PRV Chambers, isolation and control valve chambers and hydraulic control structures.
  • Large Diameter Water Mains, Force mains,
  • Water, Wastewater and Drainage Pump stations (20 HP to 1000 HP+)
  • Attend and lead meetings with the client, team members and sub-consultants.
  • Prepare engineering documents and contract documents by developing construction specifications, plans and schedules.
  • Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects.
  • Assist in the review of shop drawings and submittals, responds to request for information, prepares site observation reports, and performs other contract administration tasks.
  • Participate in basic cost estimating under the direction of technical leaders to support engineering projects.
  • Involvement in regional industry professional associations.
  • Provide independent and quality reviews for peers on other proposals or project deliverables within your technical subject matter expertise.
  • Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for team.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Proven technical skills applicable to delivering process mechanical conveyance projects including typical engineering calculations, literature reviews, specifications, drawing preparations, and cost estimating.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as AFT Fathom, InfoWater/InfoWorks, WaterGEMS/SewerGEMS or equivalent is required.
  • Understanding of local and regional jurisdictional codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions.
  • Broad, general understanding of many relevant areas of municipal engineering, hydraulics, and process mechanical systems design with respect to materials as well as industry standards.
  • General understanding of various construction means and methods and their disturbance impacts on the project site.
  • Understands phases of engineering and capital project delivery, client procurement procedures, and typical regulatory approval processes.
  • Experience in managing client expectations and engineering budgets.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Works in a team environment without direct supervision.
  • Proficient writer and communicator.
  • Completion of additional business development training and certifications considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with CFD modelling (ANSYS Fluent or similar) as it pertains to water and wastewater infrastructure would be considered an asset.
  • Holds a valid drivers' license.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Process, Environmental, Mechanical or Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in BC (other provinces an asset)
  • Minimum of 8 years progressive experience in conveyance design, engineering, construction and management of which a minimum of 5 years is in a consulting capacity.

Pay Range:
• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC - Min Salary $ 94,600.00 - Max Salary $ 137,100.00

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
