Job Description

Build the foundation for a successful career in geotechnical engineering with a great team. When we say we're full-service, we mean it. You'll find us in the office, on site, and in the lab. We work in and outdoors, above and below ground, over and under water, on projects large and small. From field exploration and lab testing to designing and managing the construction of complex geotechnical structures, our team does rock-solid work.

Join our team and discover the opportunities that await.

Are you an experienced rock engineer ready to take the next step in your career? We are seeking an intermediate to senior engineer specialized in Rock Engineering to join our team in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Stantec is a global engineering consulting firm dedicated to creating sustainable and innovative solutions with a focus on people, value, team spirit, and excellence. The successful candidate will work closely with a local team of 35 geotechnical staff in Burnaby, supported by a wider, regional team of over 200 geotechnical staff.

Your opportunity
  • Technical Development: Apply your growing expertise while learning from experienced engineers and contributing to high-quality deliverables. Assess geological conditions and carry out rock mass characterization. Conduct engineering analyses and design for a variety of rock engineering and geotechnical projects related to slope stability, tunneling and underground excavations, foundations, rockfall hazards, and mining.
  • Escape the Office: Perform occasional field work, which may include visual site inspections, geological mapping, UAV or terrestrial photogrammetry, monitoring of borehole drilling, televiewer data acquisition and interpretation, detailed rock core logging, construction monitoring, slope stability assessments, rock fall assessment, anchor testing, and installation of geotechnical instrumentation. The extent of fieldwork may vary depending on the applicants interest and experience.
  • Team Collaboration: Coordinate with project teams across Canada and abroad and contribute to a supportive, growth-focused environment. Mentor and train junior staff to expand our rock engineering team and shape the next generation of engineers.
  • Project Delivery: Take ownership of tasks within small to mid-sized projects-supporting planning, analysis, reporting, and client communication with mentorship from senior staff. Begin building client relationships by supporting project delivery and learning to tailor solutions to meet evolving needs.
  • Innovative Environment: Contribute to forward-thinking projects using tools like UAVs and AI-integrated solutions, with opportunities to collaborate with Stantec's Innovation Office and Digital Center of Excellence. Help identify areas for improvement and bring fresh ideas to enhance technical processes and project outcomes.
