This Opportunity
Provides support to technical staff, engineers, and project managers for collecting, interpreting, publishing, and warehousing of data for project numbers, market research, logistics, aggregation, and extracting meaning. Tasks may include basic assistance with research and providing information and analysis as it applies to finances, productivity, sales, clients, forecasting knowledge, industry behavior and trends, and/or business decisions. Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding assigned project specifications. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Your Impact
  • With minimal supervision, assist with sourcing, collecting, compiling, and analyzing structured and unstructured data from the field work, surveys, blueprints, spreadsheets, financial reports, computer-generated reports, and other matrices and disparate sources.
  • Perform basic professional data scientist work with identifying the data-analytics problems that offer the greatest opportunities to the task or project.
  • Assist with the development of technologies, modeling techniques, load/pricing calculations, new experimental frameworks, and analytical strategies to devise and apply models and algorithms to mine stores of big data, identify patterns and trends, and discover future-ready solutions and opportunities.
  • Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work for internal and external clients, assisting technical staff and project managers with risk identification and assessment, offering input, analysis, and actionable results.
  • Collect and review data throughout all stages of acquisition and processing, including such areas as data sourcing/collection, ground truth generation, normalization, transformation, cleaning, validating, and cross-lingual alignment/mapping, etc.
  • Assist with preparing data, visualizations, and reports summarizing research and specifications with findings and conclusions; generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using tables, charts, calculations, and illustrations.
  • Assist with the design, development, evaluation, and release of highly innovative models that elevate the customer experience and track impact over time.
  • Triage client requests to ensure project success to include completion in time and for the results to be useful.
  • Use tools such as Tableau, Looker, and Google Data Studio to aggregate data from the ERP and other software to build and develop dashboards for both client-facing and internal purposes across the company that feature relevant KPIs and metrics.
  • Assist with professional deliverables on projects and business development proposals.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Math, Data Analysis, Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience working as a data scientist/analyst.
  • Familiarity with business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau), and big data technologies (e.g. Hadoop, Spark).
  • Familiarity with computer programing databases, coding and testing (e.g. SQL).
  • Familiarity with data management practices, performing exploratory data analysis, and employing research techniques.
  • Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations, applying logic, and making decisions.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, and effectively articulating complex data in a simple, actionable manner.
  • Competent self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • High level of mathematical acumen.
  • Familiarity with statistics and predictive models.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience within the engineering consulting industry is preferred.
