Purpose:We are currently recruiting for a Instrumentation Designer Level II to support the development and piloting of novel chemical processes and small lots manufacturing at Qnity's (formerly DuPont's) Kingston Research Facility. Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based in Kingston, Ontario.
Responsibilities:- Design, program, test, commission, and support control systems for small-scale chemical pilot plants and small-lot manufacturing facilities using Rockwell Automation ControlLogix, FactoryTalk View SE/ME HMI, Studio 5000, and related data acquisition tools.
- Provide onsite operations and maintenance support to ensure reliable system performance, including troubleshooting, fieldwork, commissioning assistance, control-system checkout, and occasional after-hours support.
- Ensure vendor-engineered and internally designed systems meet Qnity requirements, are maintainable by site personnel, and include appropriate certifications for the intended application, including hazardous-area use where required.
- Work collaboratively with Process Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Process Development Scientists, Process Technicians, Maintenance Personnel, and construction teams during project execution.
- Create and implement control-system schemes and participate in Process Hazards Analysis and Management of Change processes led by Process Engineers.
- Prepare Process and Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs), electrical schematics for control systems, panel layouts, installation details, location drawings, and conduit and cabling diagrams using AutoCAD.
- Develop HMI, data-logging, alarming, and PLC programs for continuous and discrete chemical-process control using Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk and Studio 5000 platforms.
- Select PLC hardware and supporting control-system components, configure Ethernet/IP networks, and work with Process Engineers to specify instrumentation such as pressure, flow, and temperature transmitters and temperature elements.
- Manage multiple small projects while responding to ongoing maintenance and operational priorities.
What you will bring: Technical and Industry Experience: - At least two years of relevant experience preferred.
- Relevant hardware experience includes Allen-Bradley PLC hardware, Allen-Bradley Ethernet/IP devices and switches, wire and cable, power supplies, and other control-system components.
- Relevant software experience includes AutoCAD 2D, Rockwell Automation ControlLogix/Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View SE/ME HMI, PlantPAx process-control framework, and Visual Basic programming.
Education - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training: Required: - College diploma or advanced diploma in Automation and Instrumentation, Instrumentation Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, or a closely related field; or
- Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, or related Engineering degree with appropriate hands-on automation, instrumentation, or process-control experience; or
- Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant industrial experience.
Preferred Candidate Profile: - Recent graduate from a recognized automation, instrumentation, electrical, electromechanical, or industrial automation technologist program with strong co-op, project, or industrial placement experience; or
- An experienced technician/technologist with demonstrated process-control capability.
For applicants based in the province of Ontario, the salary range is $75, 599 to $111,175 CAD.
