Across Canada, WSP is delivering the communications, systems, and digital infrastructure that power safer, smarter, and more connected rail networks. As an Intermediate Communications Design Specialist, you'll shape major transit projects from concept through commissioning-bringing systems engineering, system integration, and cybersecurity principles to life on the ground.

Your Impact
  • Support the design of complex communications systems, including fibre backbone networks, CCTV, Access Control, Public Address, telephony, passenger signage, radio, intrusion detection, fare systems, SCADA, and master clock solutions.
  • Develop and review technical design deliverables such as layouts, risers, elevations, schedules, wiring diagrams, and fibre termination diagrams.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including specifications, reports, calculations, test plans, test procedures, and test reports that comply with project requirements.
  • Apply systems engineering, systems integration, and assurance principles to communications designs for large rail infrastructure projects.
  • Incorporate cybersecurity standards into system architecture and ensure designs meet relevant rail cyber requirements.
  • Support construction and commissioning activities, including T&C, site visits, as-built reviews, and field issue resolution.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary design teams, BIM specialists, and discipline leads to deliver fully integrated solutions.

The Skills That Set You Apart
  • A well-rounded background in rail communications systems, with 5-10 years of experience designing and delivering complex systems on large transit infrastructure projects.
  • An engineering degree in a relevant discipline, with P.Eng. designation considered highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of IP-based networking and the full suite of rail communications systems, including SCADA, fibre networks, CCTV, passenger announcement (PA), radio, and access control.
  • Demonstrated experience applying systems engineering, system integration, and assurance principles across multidisciplinary rail projects.
  • Working knowledge of rail cybersecurity standards (e.g., CISSP, GICSP, IEC 62443) is considered a strong asset.
  • Proven ability to interpret, review, and develop technical documentation-design packages, reports, specifications, and test documentation-with precision and clarity.

Compensation

Compensation:
AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $114,600 -$151,800
MB & ON: $104,500 - $143,900
NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $103,500 - $137,400
