JOB SUMMARY

The Instrumentation Technician position requires journeyman-level expertise in industrial instrumentation and control systems, supported by relevant hands-on experience and, preferably, formal technical education. This role is responsible for performing Functional Check-Out (FCO) commissioning activities to ensure the proper installation, operation, and performance of instrumentation and control equipment.

Candidates should have experience in oil and gas production environments, with Arctic operating experience preferred. A strong working knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), distributed control systems (DCS), ladder logic, pneumatic systems, and hydraulic systems is required. Experience with laboratory testing and materials quality control processes is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong troubleshooting, commissioning, and system validation skills while maintaining a commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.

This position is a shared resource within the WNS and Kuparuk Field, there will be times where we are required to work in the other field to support turnarounds, special projects and client directed campaigns.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Functional Check-Out (FCO) commissioning activities.
  • Crude oil sampling, testing, water cut analyzer calibration, pressure and temperature calibrations Review blueprints, schematic drawings, and job specifications to determine work requirements.
  • Instrument and control equipment testing, inspection, installation, repairs, calibration, and maintenance on equipment such as process measurement and control switches, process measurement transmitters, process measurement indicators and controllers, process analyzers and recorders.
  • Control valves and accessories, including actuators, transducers, signal converters, solenoid operated valves, regulators, and associated tubing.
  • Process and automation interface equipment such as: PLC, DCS, logic controls systems (fire and gas detection and suppression) and various annunciators.
  • Rotating equipment: turbine, compressor, pump controls, (vibration, speed, temperature, S/D)
  • Test, inspect, install, repair, and maintain instruments and control equipment, including electrical systems, signal generating instruments, control systems, programmable logic controllers, and power distribution systems.
  • Perform energy isolation tasks on high and low voltage systems in a safe manner.
  • Perform loop checks and troubleshoot systems for operational efficiency.
  • Calibrate and adjust instruments using tools and equipment such as precision regulators and test gauges.
  • Prepare material take-offs and order the required supplies and equipment.
  • Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.
  • Support AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.
  • Other duties will be assigned to this position as needed.


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A valid (U.S issued) Driver's License is required.
  • A North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification is required.
  • The ability to work 84 hours a week on a 3x3 rotation in Kuparuk and/or Alpine is required.
  • At least five (5) years of experience as an Instrumentation Technician in the Oil and Gas industry is required.


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • Five (5) or more years of experience working as an Instrumentation Technician specifically in the Petrochemical or Oil and Gas industry, on the North Slope, and/or in other Arctic environment is preferred.
  • Experience with SAP, MS Visio, IP21, and Win Trix software is preferred.

WORKING ON THE NORTH SLOPE

While working on the North Slope of Alaska, your lodging and food will be provided to you. All camps provide warm meals and options to grab a quick lunch or snack from the spike rooms. Rooms vary from single status to shared rooms where your roommate may work the opposite shift. Wi-Fi and Internet is free and available within the camp. Services vary depending upon where you are staying; however, most facilities offer housekeeping, self-serve laundry, commissary, mail, gyms, TV/Theater Room, etc. Each facility will have its own accommodation and policies that will be reviewed upon on-site orientation.
