Job Title: Instrumentation Lab Technical Lead

A position has arisen for an Instrumentation Lab Technical Lead. This is an exciting opportunity to work on flagship Rolls-Royce programs and play a vital role in solving some of the most complex and interesting technological challenges in the industry while being part of a global team.
As the Instrumentation Lab Technical Lead you will be responsible for leading and managing a team of skilled Instrumentation Engineering Technicians to deliver instrumented test hardware and custom sensors for experimental testing. This is a dynamic hands on role with direct interface with the instrumentation lab, assembly floor and engine test teams.
Key Accountabilities:
- Ensure appropriate resources are deployed, directed and co-ordinated
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, coaching and mentoring to assigned technicians to enable them to be their best
- Hire and ensure effective performance management of assigned technicians by setting/agreeing appropriate and relevant objectives, performing evaluations and appraisals (e.g. PDRs), and participating in the distribution of merit increases and bonus awards
- Ensure knowledge capture, lessons learnt, and best practice guides for the Instrumentation Lab team and encourage knowledge sharing within the group and beyond, including globally
- Develop and execute outsourced work packages as required to resource the business
- Technically oversee and direct an on-site team of Managed Service Provider (MSP) technicians providing Instrumentation Engineering Technician services, interfacing with the respective MSP management
- Develop, deliver, and demonstrate engineering performance metrics, including commitment to continuous improvement
- May travel for off-site instrumentation and test support and represent the company while working with the customer

Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related business field with 5+ years of experience in technical roles OR;
- Master’s degree in Engineering or related business field and 3+ years experience, OR;
- PhD in Engineering with 5+ years' experience
- In order to be considered for this opportunity, you must be eligible to obtain and maintain security clearance, which requires USA Citizenship
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience in managing/leading/coaching people and teams to successful outcomes and customer satisfaction
- Experience in developing and managing outsourced work package performance
- Experience in understanding and managing customer and senior management expectations
- Demonstrated ability to influence others through effective and positive engagement and communication on technical and business issues
- Proven ability to exercise sound technical and business judgement
- Technical experience with Instrumentation (i.e. pressure, strain, temperature)
- Mechanical design experience using computer aided tools such as NX
- Engineering testing experience in gas turbine systems
- Experience interfacing with customers on technical program issues
- Demonstrated project planning and management experience
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills including technical writing and presentations
