JOB SUMMARYWe are seeking an experienced Automation Controls Specialist - Lead to join our operations in Alaska's oil and gas industry. This leadership role is primarily responsible for the programming, configuration, and optimization of Distributed Control Systems (DCS), instrumentation troubleshooting, and the design of industrial control systems. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, a strong safety mindset, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, remote environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES- Lead the programming, configuration, and commissioning of DCS platforms (such as Honeywell, Emerson DeltaV, Yokogawa, or similar).
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to instrumentation, control loops, and automation systems to ensure reliable plant operation.
- Design and implement changes to control system architecture, control logic, and HMI graphics based on operational requirements and engineering standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Operations, Maintenance, Engineering) to support control system upgrades, expansions, and troubleshooting efforts.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, safety protocols, and company automation specifications.
- Develop and maintain documentation, including control narratives, loop drawings, network architecture, and system backups.
- Train and mentor junior technicians and engineers on control systems and best practices.
- Provide technical support during shutdowns, startups, and turnarounds..
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Control, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in control systems within the oil and gas industry, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
- Proficiency in programming and troubleshooting DCS systems; experience with PLCs, RTUs, and SCADA systems is a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of field instrumentation, process control theory, and PID tuning.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop sheets, wiring diagrams, and control system documentation.
- Experience working in remote or arctic environments is preferred.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Valid driver's license; ability to travel to field locations and work in extreme weather conditions.

WORKING ON THE NORTH SLOPEWhile working on the North Slope of Alaska, your lodging and food will be provided to you. All camps provide warm meals and options to grab a quick lunch or snack from the spike rooms. Rooms vary from single status to shared rooms where your roommate may work the opposite shift. Wi-Fi and Internet is free and available within the camp. Services vary depending upon where you are staying; however, most facilities offer housekeeping, self-serve laundry, commissary, mail, gyms, TV/Theater Room, etc. Each facility will have its own accommodation and policies that will be reviewed upon on-site orientation.
