Description

Sargent & Lundy is forming a new team within the Training & Development group. This team will complement our existing Instructional Design and Training Implementation teams, providing dedicated support to internal and external instructor-led training initiatives for our Nuclear Power Group.  

In this position, you’ll act as a client-facing learning consultant who partners closely with subject-matter specialists to uncover needs, define performance and learning objectives, design solutions that solve business problems, oversee development, and coordinate implementation. You’llapply yourexpertisein how peoplelearntocreate strategic, programmatic solutions thatenableyour audiences tocontinuously develop their skillsandperform confidently on the job. Solutions will primarily involve instructor-led training, but may also blend interactive labs, on-demand resources, coaching guides, and other modalities. Your work will target two primary learner audiences: 1) S&L personnel withinNPGengineering and design disciplines and 2) S&L9s external clients within the nuclear industry. 

Typical Activities Include: 

  • Learning Needs Analysis
  • Leading intake/scoping calls, workshops, focus groups, and other analysis activities to uncover and define training problems, audience profiles, performance objectives, learning objectives, and other key insights that will shape solution design. 
  • Using analysis frameworks (like tasks/skills analysis, critical mistakes analysis, journey maps, etc.) to structure analysis activities and document insights.
  • Summarizing and clearly articulating key insights in client-facing reports and presentations. 
  • Performing activities that help you develop a deep understanding of NPG and your learner audiences. 
  • Program Design
  • Designing strategic and achievable learning solution proposals (e.g., high-level designs, curriculum maps, course outlines) that define how to address the problems and objectives identified during analysis (i.e., define modalities, duration/scope, sequencing, instructional strategies and archetypes, etc.).
  • Mapping connections, scaffolding, and key themes across programs/courses. Designing solutions that fit seamlessly within the larger training framework. 
  • Designingmeaningful activitiesand practical exercisesthat align with learning objectives,promote engagement/retention, andsimulate realistic tasks. 
  • Leveraging available technology and equipment (e.g., MSTeams meeting features, lab equipment) in course designs to enhance interactivity where appropriate. 
  • Designing evaluation plans and measures toassess training effectiveness. 
  • Developing and presenting client-facing presentations that clearly communicate the core elements of the solution proposal.
  • Partnering with Training team leadership to define activity archetypes and create playbooks that enable consistent ILT design/development at scale. 
  • Program Coordination
  • Overseeing successful and sustainable program implementation.
  • Aligning and coordinating cross-team parties, such as implementation admins, facilitators, and other stakeholders.
  • Identifying and mitigating risks and error traps in execution. 
  • Collaboration, Consulting, and Continuous Improvement
  • Leading workshops with internal and external stakeholders to collaboratively work through analysis and design. 
  • Guiding project team members to align solutions with instructional best practices. 
  • Providing clear handoffs to Training team members who may own specific detailed design, development, and implementation activities. Collaborating with them to ensure alignment with the solution vision. 
  • Gathering and implementing feedback from Training & Development group peers, NPG stakeholders and subject-matter specialists,external clients,and learner audiences (via deliverable reviews, interviews, focus groups, surveys, etc.). 
  • Synthesizing and analyzing data to identify trends and forminsights/recommendations for continuous improvement and revisions. 
  • Coordinating with subject-matter specialistsand stakeholders tovalidatesolution appropriateness, alignment with business needs, and technical accuracy.
  • Project Ownership and Management: 
  • Serving as aprimarypoint of contact forinternal and externalproject stakeholders. 
  • Applying project management skills to lead your assignedprojects tothrough the entire project cycle. 
  • Creating and managing schedules. 
  • Adaptingteam processesto establish project-specific review and approval workflows. 
  • Providing status updates to various stakeholders. 
  • Managing scope. 
  • Maintainingaccurateversion control. 

This position requires occasional travelto Chicago, regional offices, and client locations to support project needs.

Essential Skills and Experience 

  • 8 or more years of experience as a Curriculum Designer, Training Specialist, Instructional Designer, Performance Consultant, Training Program Manager, or similar position  
  • Bachelor’s degree inEnglish, Communications, Learning Sciences, Instructional Design,AdultEducation, Engineering,orrelated field 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Strong organizational,time management, and project managementskills 
  • Strong relationship-building skills 
  • Ability to work with templates and adhere to style guidelines 
  • ProficiencyinADDIE, SAT, or performance-based models of training development 
  • Ability to independently take vague/undefined performance problems, define a systematic approach to uncovering needs, and develop a solution vision
  • Experience working with highly technical, complex, regulatedcontent 
  • Experience designing large, multi-modality training solutions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word

Valued But Not Required Skills and Experience 

  • Experience in thenuclearenergy industry or anotherregulated,engineering, or safety-criticalenvironment 
  • Experience with course-level design and development

Compensation Range$87,378 - $133,494 Transparency StatementSargent & Lundy discloses compensation ranges that comply with all local and state regulations. The total compensation package for eligible positions will include a base salary or an hourly rate and a comprehensive benefits package, reflecting our commitment to rewarding performance and supporting the overall well-being of our employees.
