DescriptionSargent & Lundy is forming a new team within the Training & Development group. This team will complement our existing Instructional Design and Training Implementation teams, providing dedicated support to internal and external instructor-led training initiatives for our Nuclear Power Group.
In this position, you’ll act as a client-facing learning consultant who partners closely with subject-matter specialists to design, develop, and facilitate in-person, virtual, and hybrid courses and labs for highly technical and regulated environments. You may also develop job aids, infographics, and short videos to supplement live training. You’ll apply your expertise in how people learn to create solutions that enable your audiences to continuously develop their skills and perform confidently on the job. Your work will target two primary learner audiences: 1) S&L personnel within NPG engineering and design disciplines and 2) S&L’s external clients within the nuclear industry.
Typical Activities Include
- ILT Design and Development:
- Defining and refining learning objectives.
- Gathering, validating, and refining content.
- Translating objectives and source content into a learning solution proposal (i.e., a course outline) that reflects adult learning principles and training best practices.
- Designing evaluation plans and measures to assess training effectiveness.
- Designing meaningful activities and practical exercises that align with learning objectives, promote engagement/retention, and simulate realistic tasks.
- Leveraging available technology and equipment (e.g., MS Teams meeting features, lab equipment) in course designs to enhance interactivity where appropriate.
- Developing polished final deliverables (e.g., presentation decks, facilitator guides and scripts, participant guides, worksheets, job aids, infographics, assessment questions, etc.) that contain clear instructional copy, reflect visual communication and learning principles, and adhere to brand/style guidelines and team standards.
- Synthesizing and analyzing data to identify trends and form insights/recommendations for continuous improvement and revisions.
- Overseeing periodic audits of existing training material to validate content accuracy and alignment with standards.
- Implementation and Facilitation:
- Assembling organized final training packages.
- Partnering with Training Implementation Admins to configure and assign courses in the LMS.
- Facilitating engaging, interactive training sessions (with support from subject-matter specialists who will address technical questions).
- Facilitating “train the trainer” sessions to prepare subject-matter specialists for co-facilitation.
- Project Ownership and Management:
- Serving as a primary point of contact for internal and external project stakeholders.
- Applying project management skills to lead your assigned projects to through the entire development cycle.
- Creating and managing schedules.
- Adapting team processes to establish project-specific review and approval workflows.
- Providing status updates to various stakeholders.
- Managing and prioritizing quick-turn development requests, including last-minute updates to training materials.
- Maintaining accurate version control.
- Collaboration and Consulting:
- Leading workshops with internal and external stakeholders to collaboratively work through design and development.
- Guiding project team members to align training materials with instructional best practices.
- Gathering and implementing feedback from Training & Development group peers, NPG stakeholders and subject-matter specialists, external clients, and learner audiences (via deliverable reviews, interviews, focus groups, surveys, etc.) throughout design, development, and implementation.
- Coordinating with subject-matter specialists to validate technical accuracy and approve training content before release.
While this position is classified as remote, the role requires up to 25% travel to Chicago, regional offices, and client locations to support facilitation and project needs.

Essential Skills and Experience
- 5 or more years of experience as a Training Specialist, Technical Trainer, Instructional Designer, Content Developer, or similar position
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Learning Sciences, Instructional Design, Adult Education, Engineering, or related field
- Strong written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills
- Strong relationship-building skills
- Ability to work with templates and adhere to style guidelines
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word
- Proficiency facilitating with MS Teams
- Proficiency in ADDIE, SAT, or performance-based models of training development
- Experience facilitating for in-person, virtual, and hybrid audiences
- Experience working with highly technical, complex, regulated content
Valued But Not Required Skills and Experience
- Experience in the nuclear energy industry or another regulated, engineering, or safety-critical environment
- Proficiencyin graphic design and/or video editing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud)

Compensation Range$69,657 - $106,421

The total compensation package for eligible positions will include a base salary or an hourly rate and a comprehensive benefits package, reflecting our commitment to rewarding performance and supporting the overall well-being of our employees.
