SummaryThe Department of Anesthesiology is recruiting for a faculty Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA) at Texas Children's Hospital, N. Austin Campuses, to administer anesthesia to pediatric patients. Under direct supervision of a supervising Anesthesiologist, CAAs assist in preoperative anesthetic evaluation, intraoperative anesthesia and postoperative anesthesia care of patients.
Job Duties- Administers anesthesia under the medical direction of a supervising Anesthesiologist.
- Establishes a comprehensive patient preoperative assessment to assist in anesthetic planning.
- Orders appropriate preoperative evaluations, laboratory studies and pre-medications after consultation with the anesthesiologist.
- Initiates multi-parameter monitoring prior to surgery or in other acute care settings.
- Accurately manipulates and interprets data from central venous, pulmonary artery, cerebrospinal fluid catheters and other monitors or devices that are indicated.
- Assists in the post-operative management of patients.
- Manages postoperative ventilator support and acute pain management in conjunction with existing protocols.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications- Education Required: Master's degree from an accredited Anesthesiology Assistant Program by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Note: Bachelor's degree in Anesthesiology Assistant accepted for those certified prior to 1998.
- Experience: None required.
- Certification/Licenses/Registration Required: National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants (NCCAA) certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
