Reporting to the Manager, Regulatory Compliance, the Inspector is responsible for delivering compliance-focused regulatory assurance activities within the sectors regulated by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). These include the Alcohol, Lottery and Gaming, and Cannabis sectors.

What You Will Do:
  • Plan for and conduct risk-based, outcomes-focused compliance activities, such as inspections of AGCO regulated entities in several lines of business to validate compliance in operating procedures, manuals and established best practices as well as with the applicable legislation, standards, rules, terms, conditions and/or other regulatory requirements.
  • Support the AGCO's outcomes-focused approach in delivering services as required by the AGCO's mandate with knowledge of industry-specific practices and businesses.
  • Act as a resource and provide information and education to stakeholders (internal and external), their staff, community stakeholders, the public and other partners to promote and enhance compliance and understanding of AGCO regulatory objectives verbally and/or in writing where appropriate.
  • Document and record in the form of handwritten notes a thorough and detailed account of all daily inspections and other activities in accordance with established policies and best practices.
  • Maintain logs of all activities in accordance with established protocols (e.g. vehicle reporting and maintenance, travel, expenses, inventory control log etc.).
  • Prepare inspection reports within the AGCO's internal system and escalate as per the established policies.

You Have:
  • Demonstrated experience in/and substantial knowledge of risk-based, outcomes-focused law/regulatory enforcement and information-gathering techniques.
  • Direct experience conducting inspections and/or other compliance activities and providing excellent service to the public.
  • Excellent report writing and organizational skills with the ability to successfully meet frequent deadlines.
  • A proven ability to build relationships at all levels with internal and external stakeholders.
  • The ability to make sound decisions when faced with difficult/confrontational situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to give evidence at hearings and court proceedings.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience using word processing applications and MS Office software.
  • A willingness to travel and work variable hours (including nights, weekends, and statutory holidays).
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's Licence free of offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure while maintaining a high volume of work.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada and the ability to successfully complete a criminal background check.
