OverviewPosition Summary:
The Sales Representative will be responsible for managing and developing a sales territory consisting of Independent Agencies with more complex profiles. The ideal candidate will excel in building strong relationships, optimizing growth potential, and driving market share for Mercury products. This role requires strategic planning, effective communication, and collaboration across teams to meet and exceed sales objectives.
The Sales Representative will report to the Manager of Sales.

$76,829 to $142,213 (NJ, NY, WA, HI, AK, MD, CT, RI, MA)
$69,845 to $129,284 (NV, OR, AZ, CO, WY, TX, ND, MN, MO, IL, WI, FL, GA, MI, OH, VA, PA, DE, VT, NH, ME)
$62,860 to $116,356 (UT, ID, MT, NM, SD, NE, KS, OK, IA, AR, LA, MS, AL, TN, KY, IN, SC, NC, WV)
In CA: Typical hiring range is $98,568.90 to $120,473.10
The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills and location.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
Territory Management
- Manage and develop a designated sales territory of Independent Agencies, focusing on those with complex profiles.
- Create and implement strategic plans to maximize agency growth and profitability.
New Agent Appointments and Relationship Building
- Identify potential independent agencies for partnership through market research, networking, and industry events.
- Establish and nurture strong relationships with agency partners to understand their needs and challenges.
- Influence agencies to quote and sell Mercury products to their customers effectively.
Sales Strategy Execution
- Execute sales strategies to grow Mercury’s market share within the assigned territory.
- Adjust sales tactics based on company goals and the evolving climate of the industry.
- Articulate a need-based sales approach that identifies solutions to agency needs and drives mutual benefits.
Data Driven Planning
- Conduct results-based planning for weekly in-person or virtual sales calls.
- Utilize data analytics tools to coach agents on performance and strategy execution.
Market Intelligence
- Gather and analyze competitor intelligence to inform strategic decision-making.
- Provide timely feedback and recommendations to management regarding market conditions, service levels, and the effectiveness of company programs.
Accountability and Follow-Up
- Drive results through regular contact with assigned agencies, utilizing effective communication supported by data and metrics.
- Hold agency owners accountable for mutually agreed-upon goals and outcomes.
- Communicate effectively to resolve challenging situations and achieve buy-in from agency partners.
- Respond to telephone and written correspondence from agents and customers, addressing comments, questions, and concerns promptly.
Qualifications
Education:
Minimum
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent industry experience
Experience:Minimum:
- Minimum of 2 years of sales experience in the Property & Casualty insurance industry, or a related field.
