Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Systems Engineer to support infrastructure design, configuration, and deployment for a new satellite ground system development program supporting NOAA's Space Weather Ground Services (SWGS) Mission Operations Services. This position supports all infrastructure activities across the full system lifecycle — from architecture and design through integration, authorization, and operational deployment.

 

This role requires close collaboration with Cyber, Software Engineering, Networks, Systems Engineering, Architecture, Operations, Quality, and program leadership.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and implement IT systems across Linux, Windows, and cloud-based infrastructures
  • Develop hardware system architectures based on program requirements; conduct comparative analyses of hardware and software options
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to define system specifications, requirements, and cloud migration strategies
  • Identify systems and applications suitable for cloud migration; support transition planning and execution
  • Create and maintain detailed technical drawings, diagrams, schematics, and design documentation using Visio (AutoCAD a plus)
  • Monitor and analyze physical and virtualized environments to track and optimize resource allocation
  • Support integration efforts for hardware and software components into larger system architectures
  • Support procurement activities for new materials and maintenance renewals; conduct ongoing obsolescence analysis of existing hardware and software
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend new hardware and software solutions; collaborate with vendors to assess products and services
  • Troubleshoot system issues and optimize performance for mission-critical applications

Qualifications Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance — U.S. Citizenship required
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) — designing, deploying, and managing cloud-based infrastructure
  • Expertise in VMware virtualization technologies including vSphere, vCenter Server, and Horizon View
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems — installation, configuration, and administration
  • Hands-on experience with servers, networking equipment, and storage solutions
  • Proficiency in creating formal architecture drawings and schematics — Visio required, AutoCAD recommended
  • Experience managing hardware design changes, assessing impact, obtaining approvals, and implementing changes with minimal disruption
  • Demonstrated proficiency in system design principles, implementation, and troubleshooting across multiple platforms

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools including Terraform, CloudFormation, and Ansible
  • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or equivalent cloud certification
  • Familiarity with the Atlassian suite — Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Git, Crucible, and related tools
  • Experience working in distributed virtual team environments with remote collaboration tools
  • Experience leading projects or process improvement initiatives through to successful delivery
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills; strong attention to detail
  • Active Public Trust clearance 
Target Salary Range$66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
