This is a one-year fixed-term position.

Purpose

Dr. Franco Pestilli in the Department of Psychology is hiring an Infrastructure Software Engineer for the Pestilli Lab.

Responsibilities
  • Database Design & Development: Architect and implement scalable and efficient database solutions to handle large volumes of neuroscience data. Ensure data integrity, security, and accessibility.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Build and manage cloud-based infrastructure to support the storage, processing, and analysis of neuroscience data. Leverage cloud services to enhance data availability and performance.
  • Containerization & Orchestration: Utilize Docker for containerizing applications and Kubernetes for orchestrating and managing containerized applications in a cloud environment.
  • Documentation & Best Practices: Maintain comprehensive documentation for database systems, code, and processes. Implement and promote best practices for software development and data management.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with research teams to understand their data requirements and provide technical solutions that meet their needs. Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to integrate data systems seamlessly.
  • Performance Optimization: Monitor and optimize database performance, addressing any issues related to scalability, latency, and data retrieval.


Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees or equivalent experience in relevant areas is a plus.
  • Experience: At least one year of experience in back-end software development with a strong focus on database infrastructure and cloud computing.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in database management systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, NoSQL). Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud). Hands-on experience with Docker for containerization. Understanding of Kubernetes for container orchestration. Understanding of networking, TCP/IP, HTTP, firewall. Knowledge of programming languages such as Python and JavaScript. Familiarity with data security and best practices for privacy.


Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience: At least three years of experience in back-end software development with a strong focus on database infrastructure and cloud computing.
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Detail-oriented with a commitment to delivering high-quality work.


Salary Range

$70,000+ depending on qualifications
