Position SummaryEmagine IT is seeking an Infrastructure, Cloud, and Server Room Lead to serve as the senior technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) accountable for a federal government client's hybrid Microsoft Azure and on-premises HP Hyper-V environment. The Lead owns the availability target, provides governance and quality oversight for Infrastructure and Cloud Operations, and coordinates with Engineering Services on disaster recovery and modernization while maintaining hands-on technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions- Own the hybrid Microsoft Azure and on-premises HP Hyper-V environment and server room and hold accountability for the Azure and on-premises availability target.
- Provide senior technical leadership, governance, and quality oversight for Infrastructure and Cloud Operations, ensuring standards and best practices are followed.
- Oversee Microsoft Azure operations and Microsoft 365 operations.
- Oversee identity operations across Azure AD, on-premises Active Directory, and Okta federation, in coordination with the ICAM/IAM function.
- Direct on-premises server room operations: physical infrastructure support, environmental monitoring, power management, badge-controlled physical security coordination, and rack/power documentation.
- Oversee backup and recovery and patch/configuration management (IBM BigFix, Microsoft SCCM), enforcing secure baselines aligned to Zero Trust.
- Coordinate with Engineering on DR clustering, failover exercises, and modernization roadmap items; support COOP/DR testing.
- Manage on-premises incidents and changes through ServiceNow ERB/CCB; participate in Major Incident response; support capacity, lifecycle, and CMDB accuracy for on-premises infrastructure.
Required Qualifications- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or a related field (Master's a plus); equivalent professional experience considered in lieu of a degree.
- Experience: Eight (8)+ years of infrastructure and cloud engineering with three (3)+ years in a senior/lead capacity, including deep hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and on-premises Hyper-V virtualization.
- Technical breadth: Demonstrated experience with M365 administration, identity (Entra ID/AD/Okta), backup/recovery (AvePoint, HYCU, Quest), patch/config management (BigFix, SCCM), and physical server room operations (environmental/power monitoring).
- Leadership & governance: Experience providing technical governance, quality oversight, and mentorship while sustaining high-availability targets in a federal or enterprise setting.
- Clearance & citizenship: Ability to obtain and maintain a background investigation commensurate with privileged enterprise access; a Secret clearance is required if assigned to support classified environments. U.S. citizenship is required for this project by the client. All personnel must satisfy the government client's suitability and background-investigation requirements before receiving physical or logical access to facilities or systems.
Preferred Qualifications- Microsoft Azure certifications (e.g., AZ-104 Administrator, AZ-305 Solutions Architect Expert).
- Microsoft 365 / Identity administrator certifications; ITIL v4.
- Experience with STIG hardening and FISMA/RMF-aligned operations.
- Experience managing a physical federal server room and DR/failover exercises.

- Ability to work in server room/data center environments, including areas with increased ambient noise, variable temperatures, and raised flooring or cable management systems.
- Ability to regularly lift, carry, and move IT hardware and infrastructure components weighing up to 40 pounds (e.g., servers, networking equipment, rack components), with team lift or equipment assistance for heavier items.
- Ability to install, remove, and reposition equipment within server racks, including reaching, bending, kneeling, and working at varying heights (e.g., upper rack units).
- Ability to navigate badge-controlled and restricted-access physical security areas, including server rooms and equipment closets.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position and operate a computer for extended periods when performing governance, oversight, and administrative functions.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and in writing/virtually with colleagues, government stakeholders, and leadership.
- Ability to respond to incidents that may require prompt, in-person presence in the server room or on-premises facility, including outside of standard business hours.
