Summary

This vacancy is for a GS-2210-12, Information Tech Cyber Security Specialist located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, USCG-TECH-CYBER in WASHINGTON District of Columbia.

You will serve as a/an Information Tech Cyber Security Specialist and be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing organizational information systems; upgrading legacy systems; and providing program analytical support, guidance, and recommendations in connection with the acquisition of IT for the USCG..

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Providing direct support for acquisitions that use IT (including National Security Systems), applying IT-related laws and policies and providing IT-related guidance throughout the total acquisition lifecycle.
  • Facilitating meetings with the acquisition program and project managers to identify and document all cybersecurity issues and actions, resource requirements, and project planning issues or activities.
  • Evaluating and resolving critical and complex IT assessment and authorization (A&A) and lifecycle management problems.
  • Coordinating with system architects and developers to provide oversight in the development of design solutions.


OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS/CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must complete a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with a favorable adjudication by a determining authority.
  • Must be willing to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).
  • Must be able to achieve and maintain DHS Program Management Level II certification and USCG Information Technology Level II certification within 18 months of employment/assignment.
  • Must be able to achieve and maintain COR certification within 18 months of employment/assignment.
  • Must be able to achieve and maintain Level II DOD 8140 certification within 6 months of employment/assignment.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal or private sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. DoD 8140 Level II certified.

Specialized experience may include the following:

  • Develops, engineers, and maintains cybersecurity plans, strategy, and policy to support and align with organizational cybersecurity initiatives and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Coordinates the implementation and integration of security programs across platforms.
  • Plans, facilitates, and conducts project update meetings and briefings designed to impart information concerning the needs and requirements of the program to program staff members.


NOTE: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.
