As your initial project assignment, you will support the unique needs of our client as a Industrial IoT / Sensor Integration Engineer.Project Summary

AIS is seeking an Industrial IoT / Sensor Integration Engineer to support the installation, retrofit, and integration of aftermarket and OEM sensors onto existing equipment within a shipyard environment.

This role will focus on instrumenting equipment for telemetry collection, troubleshooting sensor and connectivity issues, and interfacing installed sensors with local edge/gateway devices for upstream data transmission to enterprise monitoring platforms.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience working with industrial equipment, sensors, instrumentation, and field wiring in manufacturing, maritime, shipyard, or heavy industrial environments. This role requires frequent on-site presence. Travel to one or more industrial locations will be required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install and commission aftermarket and OEM sensors on existing shipyard and manufacturing equipment.
  • Assist in determining appropriate sensor placement and mounting methods for telemetry collection.
  • Perform retrofits of legacy equipment to support instrumentation and monitoring.
  • Run, terminate, and test field wiring for sensors and instrumentation.
  • Interpret and update wiring diagrams, schematics, and installation documentation.
  • Connect sensors to local edge/gateway devices or industrial controllers.
  • Configure basic communication settings for data transmission to upstream platforms.
  • Support troubleshooting of device-to-gateway and gateway-to-network connectivity.
  • Validate sensor performance and telemetry accuracy after installation.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues involving faulty sensors, wiring, power, signal quality, or connectivity.
  • Work with equipment operators and maintenance personnel during commissioning and troubleshooting.
  • Document installations, wiring paths, sensor mappings, and configuration settings.
  • Coordinate with engineering, maintenance, IT, and operations teams to schedule installations and minimize operational disruption.

Required For This Opportunity
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline. Equivalent hands-on field experience may be substituted for formal education.
  • Five (5) years of experience installing, wiring, and commissioning industrial or aftermarket sensors on mechanical or electrical equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment drawings.
  • Familiarity with industrial signal types and interfaces including 4-20mA, 0-10V, digital I/O, and serial communications.
  • Experience troubleshooting sensor, cabling, and instrumentation issues in industrial environments.
  • Basic understanding of industrial networking and connectivity including Ethernet, serial communications, and field protocols.
  • Ability to work safely in active industrial/shipyard/manufacturing environments.
  • Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude and comfort working directly with equipment in the field.
Nice to Have Skills
  • Experience with industrial gateways, edge devices, or telemetry collection hardware.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, industrial controllers, or SCADA-connected equipment.
  • Experience in shipyard, maritime, manufacturing, defense, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Exposure to industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, OPC-UA, or MQTT.
  • Experience supporting predictive maintenance, equipment monitoring, or industrial telemetry initiatives.
