Job Summary The Industrial Hygiene Engineer, EHSS is responsible for ensuring that the sites in the Shared Services Organization (Ottawa, Bay St. Louis, and Tampico) maintain compliance with industrial hygiene regulations. The position has several essential functions and responsibilities.
How You Can Be the Impact- This role is responsible for comprehensive Industrial Hygiene activities with an understanding of air monitoring methods, sample handling, data analysis, ventilation, lighting, radiation, use of air monitoring equipment and report writing.
- Develop, implement, and maintain an approved Industrial Hygiene (IH) plan in accordance with appropriate regulatory requirements, covering programs such as asbestos, ergonomics, hazard communication, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, thermal stress, indoor air quality, and other occupational health hazards.
- Conduct IH surveillance and assessments, including workplace inspections, exposure monitoring, and collection/analysis of field samples.
- Monitor and analyze the Industrial Hygiene reports and provide appropriate communication to employees after IH testing has been completed.
- Determines effectiveness of engineering control methods and makes recommendations regarding location, design, structure, operations, and maintenance of new/modified equipment.
- Provides industrial hygiene support within laboratory settings.
- Determine remediation/restoration protocols to address asbestos, lead, mold, moisture and other environmental hazards.
- Ability to author/amend clear/concise training materials and site-specific procedures pertaining to Industrial Hygiene.
- Participates and/or leads portions of IH self-assessments or audits acting as the site representative for industrial hygiene
- Proactively identifying potential hazards, such as analyzing safety data sheets (SDS) or evaluating new processes before they start.
- Maintaining the SDS system for each site.
What Matters to SABIC- A minimum of 3 years relevant experience in a chemical or industrial setting or a BS degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environment Health or a related science field.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to transfer relevant information efficiently and effectively using Microsoft Office applications and other IT applications.
- Working knowledge of occupational exposure pathways and control strategies; experience with air sampling pumps and calibrators, sound level meters/dosimeters, and common direct-reading instruments (e.g., PID/LEL, multi-gas, heat stress monitors)
- Provide technical direction and execution of Industrial Hygiene programs.
- Knowledge of the principles of industrial hygiene and workplace hazards
- Organizational skills to balance priorities between immediate work and longer-term strategical efforts.
Physical Requirements: Walk for extended distances, climb stairs & ladders, leaning/kneeling to view equipment.
