Industrial Engineer - Manufacturing Cost and Continuous Improvement - Role Highlights

The Industrial Engineer - Cost and Continuous Improvement role is to provide support to optimize manufacturing processes and establish accurate and timely cost, financial, and statistical data to all stakeholders that improve profitability. This role combines financial process analysis with operational engineering excellence, focusing on Lean manufacturing principles to maximize throughput, reduce costs, and optimize production efficiency. The Industrial Engineer identifies opportunities, initiates projects through collaboration with production leadership, operators, maintenance, sales, product development, supply chain, IT, and accounting. Identifies the project plan and executes the actions needed to achieve goals. This role will develop cost standards, BOM's, while driving improvement projects across the enterprise and implement sustainable cost saving initiatives.

Responsibilties

  • Perform all work in a safe manner following all safety standards and use required safety equipment.
  • Identify and lead productivity and/or efficiency projects to completion
  • Process Engineering and Continuous Improvement:
    • Lead CI Projects including but not limited to VSM, waste elimination, SMED, 5S, Standard Work, and process optimizations
    • Conduct studies with MOST (Maynard Operation Sequence Technique) to establish accurate standards and labor cost baselines
    • Identify non-value-added activity with MOST analysis to drive CI efforts.
  • Identify productivity and/or efficiency improvement opportunities through process and data analysis
    • Quantify measurable impact while identifying needed actions
    • Execute project plan with on time completion of deliverables
    • Ensure sustainability of impact after project execution in complete
    • Ensure improvements meet safety, quality, delivery, productivity and efficiency objectives
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency and/or productivity
  • Manage projects using Green Belt tools and DMAIC methodology where applicable. Communicate and document project activities such as the project scope, timelines, design reviews, action plans, and measured results
  • Determine baseline capabilities and identify bottlenecks in production
  • Evaluate technologies and suppliers for decisions on projects
  • Work with others to investigate and solve business challenges
  • Responsible for collecting, organizing, and analyzing operational cost data. Assist in developing and analyzing cost standards resulting in setting standard costs for manufactured goods.
  • Partner with finance to maintain ongoing visibility of obsolete and aged inventory and recommend corrective actions and/or accounting adjustments.
  • Analyze and communicate variances including but not limited to labor, yields, material usage, overhead, and absorption.
  • Assist with quotes and pricing models as needed. Prepare periodic production reporting as requested.
  • Perform cost-benefit analyses to compare operating programs, review financial requests or explore alternative financing methods.
  • Manage and maintain cost standards and bills of material for work-in-process and finished goods.
  • Assist with preparation of budgets and/or forecasts.
  • Create and/or modify information supporting the use of equipment in production including setup sheets, visual aids, work instructions, spare parts lists, manuals, and purchase of spare parts and provide training to operators on all changes
  • Provide technical support and assistance to the plant maintenance team on existing equipment and tooling
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or related engineering discipline or Cost Accounting
  • Six Sigma Green Belt of Black Belt certification preferred
  • Lean Continuous Improvement training or certification preferred

Experience:
  • 5-7+ years cost accounting or engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 5+ Experience leading lean continuous improvement projects with positive results
  • Facilitating and participation in CI Events (SMED, 3P, SW, KANBAN)
  • Practical application with MOST in a Manufacturing environment
  • Command of MOST standards - TalkMOST experience or willingness to learn

License or Certification
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification preferred
  • Lean Continuous Improvement training or certification preferred
