At a Glance

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for an Industrial Engineer III to join the Lighting Division Focal Point IE Team in Chicago, IL. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and executing operational launch-related activities required for successful product releases and engineering change implementations. Identifying and leading continuous improvement efforts within Operations and Paint. This role requires close collaboration across engineering and operations to ensure alignment and buy-in on key initiatives and process changes. This position reports to the Plant Manager.

What Will You Do?
  • Partner with product development and operations leadership to plan and drive launch-related operational activities. This includes, but is not limited to, layout redesigns, manufacturing cell development, creation and maintenance of standard work, product costs, and throughput analysis.
  • Proactively identify and address areas of opportunity and collaborate across the organization using lean techniques to improve safety and ergonomics, eliminate bottlenecks, increase quality, and reduce costs across the Operations department.
  • Provide technical support to production for the launch of new products and changes on existing products with a focus on process and quality.
  • Review bill of materials and costing and establish routings for new and existing Focal Point products; report and perform regular maintenance to keep all information up to date.
  • Own the creation and maintenance of Standard Work and Visual Aids for assembly.
  • Lead business efforts in the development and implementation of lean manufacturing concepts including developing strategies, training employees, facilitating kaizen events, and auditing areas to ensure sustainability of improvements.
  • Extract and analyze process data and develop strategies to drive process improvement. Monitor trends in performance indicators to evaluate efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Coordinate activities in scrap reduction, elimination of rework, material variances, labor variances, safety and ergonomic evaluations, and overall continuous improvement in assigned areas.
  • Analyze current capabilities versus future production needs based on expected customer demand and establish machine, tooling, and process requirements.
  • Troubleshoot processes and quality defects in areas of responsibility.
  • Keep up to date on changes and advances in technology and best practices, incorporating new techniques and tools where appropriate.

Required Skills

Qualifications:
  • 5 -7 years of experience as an Industrial or Manufacturing Engineer, preferably with New Product Development, Operational Excellence or related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant Engineering or Science discipline is required.
  • Experience in project management with successful demonstration of timely implementation of project and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Lean Manufacturing tools and technologies. Working knowledge of problem solving and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Subject Matter expert in one or more Lean Tools preferred.
  • Working knowledge and experience with ISO9001 requirements related to documentation, quality controls, training, product segregation requirements, and continuous improvement desired.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar modeling software, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, with all levels of workforce including production workers, engineers and upper-level management. Must have the personality to run meetings and appropriately motivate others to action and alignment.
  • Team player - demonstrated history of building rapport and quickly integrating with a new team.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is desirable.
  • Salary Range: $85,000 - $100,000 starting base plus bonus.
