Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis on technical indirect tax issues according to laws and regulations
  • Perform tax audits including data gathering and issue resolution
  • Extract and reconcile data from multiple sources, ensuring accuracy
  • Prepare and file various tax returns per applicable laws
  • Manage tax documentation, licenses, and bonds related to the business
  • Execute monthly tax reconciliations and process tax payments/refunds
  • Resolve correspondence and notices from tax authorities effectively
  • Monitor legislative changes affecting tax determinations and compliance.
  • Coordinate tax-related contracts with internal teams.
  • Collaborate closely with traders and operations teams for accurate tax treatment of transactions.

Full Job Description
The Indirect Tax Analyst will support the US business and help ensure that indirect tax considerations are properly reflected in on-going business activities within the company risk profile and for business decisions purposes. This position requires good technical skills, communication skills, proactive project management skills, and sound financial acumen.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and analysis on technical indirect tax issues based on tax laws, regulation, and policies.

  • Performing tax audit processes including data gathering, workpaper preparation and review, and identification and subsequent resolution of any issues.

  • Extract, review, reconcile large volumes of data from various sources; ensure accuracy and completeness.

  • Preparing and filing tax returns (such as excise, sales, and ad valorem) in accordance with applicable tax laws and regulations

  • Managing tax documentation, licenses, and associated bonds.

  • Performing monthly tax reconciliations; booking of tax payments/refunds.

  • Timely resolution of correspondence and notices from tax authorities.

  • Track, review, and implement new legislative and rate changes.

  • Tax Contract review and coordination on new business with internal teams.

  • Monitor day-to-day oil movement and trading activity with schedulers and operations teams, resolving data or process issues that could affect tax determination, reporting, and compliance.

  • Collaborate daily with traders and operations teams to ensure accurate tax treatment of oil trading transactions and related operational activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance; Master in Taxation (or equivalent)

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in excise tax, or similar role

  • Experience within the oil and gas industry and/or within a Big 4 company; expertise in energy or commodity trading business

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Experience with Tax Determination System OneSource highly preferred

  • Team player and excellent communication skills, including written and spoken (English)

  • Proactive, ability to work independently, deal with all levels of management

  • Great judgment, resiliency, strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic and high-intensity environment including open-floor plan if applicable to the position, with timely responsiveness and the ability to work beyond normal business hours when required.
