Full Job Description
About The Role

We are seeking an Incident & Crisis Management Lead to join Anthropic's Global Safety, Intelligence, and Security (GSIS) team. In this role, you will operationalize Anthropic's crisis management program, equipping the company to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from incidents and crises that could impact our people, operations, or mission. The threat landscape is broad, spanning physical, supply chain, operational, reputational, and geopolitical disruption.

While this role does not directly manage technology incidents (such as IT outages, disaster recovery, or engineering issues), you will ensure the right stakeholders are engaged whenever a threat crosses both physical and technical domains.

This role sits at the intersection of emergency management, enterprise resilience, and executive communication. Working closely with the Enterprise Resilience Manager, you will lead incident and crisis exercises and real-world activations, maintain scalable response plans and playbooks, and build the capability of cross-functional teams to perform under pressure. You will be a visible, trusted partner across the organization, known for steady judgment, clear communication, and a relentless focus on continuous improvement.

This is an individual contributor role with the opportunity to shape a function foundational to Anthropic's long-term resilience. As Anthropic scales globally, the stakes and complexity of our crisis management needs grow with it, and this role is central to meeting that challenge.

This role carries an on-call requirement and after-hours availability. The Incident & Crisis Management Lead is expected to respond to threats as they arise, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Responsibilities
  • Operationalize Anthropic's crisis management program, translating industry frameworks (NIMS/ICS, ISO 22361, ISO 22301) into response plans, playbooks, activation protocols, and governance structures that fit the organization
  • Serve as Incident Commander, or provide direct support to the Incident Commander, during activations, leading and coordinating response teams in real time
  • Design and facilitate exercises and tabletop simulations of increasing complexity to test plans, build team capability, and surface improvement opportunities across GSIS and cross-functional partners
  • Lead after-action reviews following exercises and real-world incidents; track corrective actions to completion and fold lessons learned into future plans and training
  • Partner with GSOC, Legal, People, Communications, IT Security, and Facilities to build coordinated crisis response capability across a broad range of threats
  • Maintain and regularly validate Crisis Management Team rosters and activation contacts
  • Monitor the threat environment for developments relevant to Anthropic's operations and advise leadership on emerging risks
  • Support broader enterprise resilience initiatives, including business continuity and disaster recovery
  • Advance the integration of AI tools into how we identify, respond to, and recover from threats
  • Support the Enterprise Resilience Manager on special projects as needed
You May Be a Good Fit If You
  • Have 8+ years of professional experience in emergency management, incident response, or crisis management
  • Have led cross-functional response teams as Incident Commander in high-stress, rapidly evolving situations
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related field, or bring equivalent practical experience
  • Have designed and facilitated incident and crisis exercises across multiple levels of complexity, building scenarios that are realistic and instructive
  • Communicate exceptionally well in writing and in person, including developing and delivering executive briefings during active incidents
  • Build trusted partnerships quickly across a wide range of internal stakeholders
  • Manage multiple active workstreams under time pressure with minimal oversight
  • Thrive in fast-moving, ambiguous environments and bring a continuous improvement mindset to everything you build
  • Are available for on-call support and flexible hours, including nights and weekends, during crisis events
  • Are open to occasional international travel
Strong Candidates May Also Have
  • Experience applying NIMS/ICS in a corporate or hybrid environment
  • Experience in the technology sector, particularly supporting crisis management for cloud-native or AI-driven organizations
  • Professional certifications such as CEM, CBCP, MBCI, or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of ISO 22361, ISO 22301, and related resilience standards and frameworks
  • Hands-on experience with crisis management platforms and mass notification tools (e.g., Everbridge, Veoci, OnSolve)
  • A background in developing crisis communications strategies and stakeholder messaging frameworks

Deadline to apply: None. Applications will be received on a rolling basis.

The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.

For sales roles, the range provided is the role's On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.

Annual Salary:

$180,000-$230,000 USD

Logistics

Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience

Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience

Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position

Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.

Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.

We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.
