Job Description: Inbound/Outbound Operations ManagerPosition SummaryThe Inbound/Outbound Operations Manager is responsible for leading all warehouse receiving and fulfillment operations, ensuring the safe, efficient, and accurate flow of inventory from receipt through shipment. This leadership role oversees both inbound (Dock Receiving, Receiving Confirmation, Putaway) and outbound (Picking, Packing, Shipping) functions while driving operational excellence, service level performance, and continuous improvement across the fulfillment center.Reporting to the Head of Auction Operations, this role leads multiple warehouse managers and their respective teams, balancing inbound and outbound priorities to achieve daily, weekly, and long-term business objectives. The Inbound/Outbound Operations Manager partners closely with cross-functional leaders across Operations, Inventory Control, Transportation, Planning, Engineering, and other business functions to optimize warehouse performance, maximize storage utilization, and support company growth.Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Leadership- Provide strategic leadership for all inbound and outbound warehouse operations.
- Oversee managers responsible for Receiving, Receiving Confirmation, Putaway, Picking, Packing, and Shipping operations.
- Establish daily operational priorities while balancing inbound workload, outbound demand, labor capacity, and customer commitments.
- Ensure all operational Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are consistently achieved or exceeded.
- Drive operational execution while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, productivity, and inventory accuracy.
Team Leadership & Development- Lead, coach, and develop a team of warehouse managers and their leadership teams.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, collaboration, and employee engagement.
- Conduct performance reviews, succession planning, and leadership development initiatives.
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels and organizational structure to support business demands.
Inbound Operations- Oversee dock receiving, receiving confirmation, and putaway processes.
- Optimize receiving schedules and dock utilization to improve throughput.
- Partner with Inventory Control to ensure timely and accurate inventory availability.
- Drive improvements in receiving productivity, inventory accuracy, and dock-to-stock cycle time.
Outbound Operations- Lead picking, packing, and shipping operations to ensure on-time customer fulfillment.
- Monitor fulfillment throughput, order accuracy, and shipping performance.
- Balance labor resources to meet changing order volumes and shipping deadlines.
- Drive continuous improvements in fulfillment efficiency and customer service performance.
Storage & Space Planning- Partner with Inventory Control and warehouse leadership to optimize warehouse layout and storage utilization.
- Develop storage strategies that maximize cube utilization while supporting operational efficiency.
- Identify capacity constraints and implement proactive space planning solutions.
- Support warehouse expansion projects, slotting initiatives, and inventory flow improvements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration- Partner with Transportation, Inventory Control, Supply Chain, Customer Service, Engineering, IT, and Planning teams to improve end-to-end operational performance.
- Support implementation of new systems, automation, and process improvements.
- Communicate operational performance, risks, and mitigation plans to senior leadership.
Safety & Compliance- Ensure compliance with all OSHA regulations and company safety standards.
- Promote a safety-first culture through coaching, auditing, and employee engagement.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
QualificationsRequiredBachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Operations Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).12+ years of progressive leadership experience managing warehouse, distribution, or fulfillment center operations. 7+ years leading multiple managers within a high-volume distribution or fulfillment environment.Demonstrated experience overseeing both inbound and outbound warehouse operations.Experience managing large teams through multiple levels of leadership.Strong understanding of warehouse management systems (WMS) and warehouse best practices.Proven success achieving operational KPIs including productivity, quality, inventory accuracy, and service levels.Experience with labor planning, workforce management, and operational budgeting.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.Excellent communication and cross-functional leadership skills.Preferred- Experience in eCommerce or omnichannel fulfillment environments.
- Lean, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement certification.
- Experience supporting warehouse automation and material handling systems.
- Experience with storage optimization, slotting strategies, and warehouse space planning.
Additional DetailsThe base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:
$86,800 - $150,100
Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
