Full Job Description
We are seeking an IP Paralegal. The ideal candidate for this role is an experienced, professional paralegal who is a team player and can perform a variety of paralegal functions, is familiar with the patent prosecution process and terminology, and has a high aptitude for understanding technology and software. The ideal candidate should be detail oriented, able to manage patent prosecution processes and understand associated documents and due dates, perform basic research and writing, and assist attorneys to prioritize and schedule legal tasks. Experience in other practice areas, such as litigation, is a plus.

Role/responsibilities:
  • Works as a member of a cohesive, professional paralegal team.
  • Consistently exhibits the desire, aptitude and drive to learn and master support to our patent program including processes to support invention disclosures, patent preparation, U.S. and foreign patent prosecution, patent rewards, licensing and compliance tracking, government reporting, patent prosecution metrics, budget, legal research and various projects as assigned.
  • Assists attorneys with open-source license and compliance programs, trademark portfolio management and filings, research, and preparation and execution of documents.
  • Assists all attorneys and other members of the Law Department with a variety of paralegal and administrative tasks across many legal practice areas and possesses advanced computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Assists with legal research and drafting of documents; regularly interacts with internal stakeholders and outside counsel.

  • Demonstrates acute attention to detail combined with the experience and ability to manage deadlines, perform first-level review of basic legal documents, perform research, and organize and track files related to legal matters and important transactions.
  • Superior writing skills that demonstrate an ability to independently adapt routine communications to specific scenarios, with acute attention to detail and grammar.
  • Collaborates effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders, including employees at all levels in the Company, inventors, outside counsel, and various vendors and third parties.
  • Minimum of six to eight years or more of relevant experience as a paralegal in a law firm and/or in-house corporate environment, with an understanding and a desire to master support of patent prosecution and docketing procedures.
  • High school diploma or the equivalent, some college or a college degree preferred
  • Ability to occasionally move files/documents weighing up to 15lbs.

Preferences for the role:

In addition to the requirements listed above, the following qualifications are desired but not required:
  • Paralegal experience with software related patent or trade secret litigation.
  • IP training certifications or advanced education.
  • Experience with patent management platforms, such as Anaqua AQX or Lecorpio.

This position is based in our Reston, VA office and offers a hybrid work schedule.

The pay range for the Paralegal III is $89,900 - $121,700. The pay range for Paralegal IV is $99,000 - $134,000.

The anticipated annualized base salary ranges for this position are noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience. Verisign offers a discretionary bonus which is based on individual and company performance, and certain roles may be eligible for discretionary stock awards.
