Full Job Description
Title: Improvement Engineer
Location: Freeport, TX
Additional locations may include

Salary: $113,000+
Schedule: 9/80, 5-8 schedule available
Relocation Available

The Improvement Engineer leads the plant-level improvement process by gathering and analyzing data, evaluating improvement opportunities, and implementing improvement projects. This role ensures plant improvements align with business objectives via the Plant Specific Technology Plan to close performance and reliability gaps, reduce costs, and increase productivity (capacity creep, reliability, etc.). In addition, the Improvement Engineer provides expense and capital project support, which may include filling various roles in the global project execution work processes, such as project manager, manufacturing representative, Six Sigma green/black belt, etc.

What You'll Do
  • Lead and support plant-wide continuous improvement initiatives across safety, quality, productivity, and cost optimization using Lean Six Sigma and other methodologies. Implement best practices to optimize operations, including owning the pipeline and tracking tools.
  • Provides leadership and direction in the implementation and development of best available practice for the process area.
  • Collect, analyze, and model data (OEE, yield, downtime, waste, etc.) to quantify losses and track performance indicators. Design and maintain tracking systems and dashboards for key metrics.
  • Serves as Subject Matter Expert for any appointed areas of expertise (e.g. process safety, process area / equipment, work process disciplines, etc.) and serve in plant on-call rotation.


What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree* in Engineering; Chemical or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • 3+ years of improvement, project or production engineering; 5+ years preferred.
  • Must have Chemical industry experience.
  • Experience with process Optimization, Process Simulation (Aspen Plus, ChemCAD), Material Science, Fluid Dynamics, Process Control Systems, P&IDs, Plant Equipment (reactors, distillation columns, etc.), Data Analysis (Minitab, Power BI, Excel).
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills - verbal and written and demonstrated ability to problem solve and work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of OSHA 1910.119 PSM standard and SAP preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) and possess a valid US Driver's license.

*Degree must be from a school that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the Secretary of Education of the U.S. Department of Education or equivalent program from an international university.
