Full Job Description

The Integrated Enterprise Systems (IES) Domain Analyst is a strategic, cross-functional role that helps connect research needs with digital and data capabilities across R&D and IES and will play a central role in defining data concepts, building data models, shaping feature sets and process flows, and translating research challenges into structured work for project teams. The position focuses on data strategy, governance, integration, and stakeholder collaboration to improve consistency, scalability, and alignment across R&D platforms and initiatives as well as driving both strategic planning and tactical execution. This position requires strong project management skills, communication and problem-solving skills to support research data system development and strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities

Domain Analysis & Strategy

  • Lead investigations into complex digital and data domain challenges assigned by R&D leadership.
  • Represent IES needs during third-party evaluations and implementation planning.
  • Partner with IES experts on data security reviews.
  • Act as a consultant to domain teams and program leads on data, business processes, and governance.
  • Critically assess the value and prioritization of potential projects in portfolio 
  • Collaborate with IES domain analysts and architects to develop discussion guidelines and drive data strategy.
  • Collaborate with the Competency Technology Leads, Domain Architect, Research Domain Leads, and Domain Analyst group members to create strategic and tactical plans for research systems.
  • Work collaboratively with research partners to identify and define high value opportunities in the digital and data project landscape
  • Apply systems-thinking and domain analysis skills to evaluate opportunities across and within research areas, identify integration points among workflows, processes, and data, and help shape a holistic vision and roadmap for future capabilities.
  • Identify and escalate opportunities in the project landscape that require changes in plan or resourcing.

Data Governance & Modeling

  • Contribute to the development of a data governance framework for all projects.
  • Define and model research data concepts to ensure consistency and clarity.
  • Advise development teams during governance reviews.
  • Work collaboratively and independently with research partners to understand core data concepts and define data interactions for current and future systems.
  • Create data models and conceptual definitions with data owners, stewards, and system design teams.
  • Build high-level feature sets and process diagrams to create work packages for project teams.
  • Facilitate connections between internal and external data concepts used by R&D.
  • Promote a data-centric culture through governance and planning activities.

Leadership & Influence

  • Co-develop and communicate domain vision and portfolio with the R&D Lead and Domain Architect.
  • Educate and influence R&D teams on the importance of strong data strategy.
  • Communicate complex technical information to a variety of audiences in a clear and concise manner.
  • Drive the creation and adoption of domain blueprints and integration roadmaps.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in domain analysis, data governance, or digital strategy within R&D or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of IES Domains, Competencies and data ecosystems.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, influence without direct authority, and build confidence in new technologies.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strategic thinking and enterprise mindset.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with partners.
  • Comfortable working through ambiguity, asking questions, and remaining inquisitive.
  • Excellent requirements-gathering and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to understand interconnected processes.
  • Comfortable using a variety of tools to accomplish work.
  • Ability to balance tactical decisions with strategic goals and objectives.

Preferred Skills

  • 8 to 10+ years of experience
  • BS, MS or PhD in physical or life science disciplines
  • Experience with Crop Health, Regulatory & Stewardship, Enabling Capabilities R&D Domains.
  • Familiarity with Software Engineering, Data Science, and Data Engineering knowledge for troubleshooting and technical support.
  • Exposure to cross-domain architecture and technical Centers of Excellence (CoEs).
