What to Expect

The Instrumentation & Electrical Technician has a heavier focus on electrical work than instrumentation. Primary responsibilities are safe work on in-service equipment, including replacement of existing equipment, troubleshooting, and repair of legacy/historical systems that support natural gas operations across field locations and associated facilities. This position will be based in Spindletop, TX and covers areas including Beaumont and Winnie.

What You'll Do
  • Perform electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on equipment and systems operating at 600 volts and under, including 24 VDC control circuits, in support of safe and reliable natural gas operations.
  • Work on lighting panels and distribution equipment in both non-classified and classified (hazardous) areas at natural gas facilities, including:
    • 120/240 VAC single-phase panels
    • 208/120 VAC three-phase systems
    • 480 VAC three-phase distribution to individual isolation disconnects
  • Install, inspect, and maintain equipment used in natural gas operations, including:
    • MCCs and switchgear rated 600 volts and under
    • Dry-type transformers, single-phase and three-phase
    • Breaker-style and fused safety disconnects
    • Combination motor starters (across-voltage, reversing, etc., as applicable)
  • Troubleshoot and maintain single-phase and three-phase motors from 120 VAC up to 480 VAC three-phase, including:
    • Motor control circuits
    • 480 VAC variable frequency drives (VFDs) and associated control wiring
    • Overload and protection devices
  • Work with motor-operated valves (MOVs), gas actuators, and pilot control systems used in natural gas operations, including:
    • Power circuits and control wiring
    • Limit switches, position indication, and interlocks
    • Basic troubleshooting of actuator and pilot control issues on in-service equipment
  • Troubleshoot and maintain the control side of:
    • Combination motor starters
    • MOV systems and associated field control devices
    • Gas actuators, pilots, and associated control components used in natural gas service
  • Perform basic instrumentation support as required (sensors, transmitters, simple control loops), with the expectation of a primary focus on electrical systems supporting natural gas facilities and operations.


What You'll Bring - Required
  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Technical certificate, associate degree, or equivalent training in Electrical, Electro-Mechanical, or Instrumentation & Electrical technology (or relevant field).
  • 2 or more years of demonstrated hands-on experience with:
    • 120-480 VAC systems and associated distribution equipment
    • 24 VDC and low-voltage control circuits
    • Basic motor controls, starters, and motor protection
    • Basic gas actuator/pilot troubleshooting and field support in natural gas operations or similar industrial applications.
  • 2 or more years of experience using basic electrical test equipment (multimeters, clamp meters, megger, etc.) for troubleshooting
  • Intermediate level of understanding of arc flash studies, PPE categories, and equipment labeling requirements for low-voltage power distribution
  • Intermediate level of understanding of PLCs and discrete/analog logic control (ability to follow simple ladder logic and I/O for troubleshooting)
  • Ability to read and work from electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and applicable natural gas facility documentation
  • Willing and able to with or without reasonable accommodation:
    • Lift up to 50 pounds
    • Occasionally climb A-frame ladders, or heights up to 50 feet
    • Occasionally exert pulling forces up to 100 pounds
    • Regularly stoops, squats, kneels, and crouches for durations up to 30 minutes
    • Works extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays
    • Work outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat, and humidity
    • Works safely near large, hot, high-speed machines
    • Work in loud environment
    • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment items (such but not limited to steel-toe shoes, eye and ear protection, and fall protection)


What Makes You Stand Out - Preferred
  • 6 or more years of prior industrial experience (co-op, internship, or full-time) in natural gas liquids, natural gas transmission/gathering, refining, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environments
  • 6 or more years of experience with:
    • Motor-operated valves (MOVs) and their control schemes
    • Gas actuators, pilots, and related control schemes used in natural gas operations
    • Combination motor starters and control circuits
    • Troubleshooting legacy or historical electrical equipment still in service
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting mindset with attention to detail in support of safe, reliable natural gas operations
  • Willingness to learn additional instrumentation skills over time while serving as the electrical resource for natural gas field facilities
  • Ability to work safely on and around in-service equipment under guidance, following all procedures and permits
  • Willingness and ability to travel to remote locations throughout the system as needed, including driving company vehicles safely and responsibly
  • Good communication with operations, maintenance, supervision, SCADA support, and remote-control centers during troubleshooting and repair activities affecting natural gas operations


Compensation Range

This position has a base salary range of $75,000 - $113,960.
