Job Title: I&C Design Engineer

Responsibilities:
- Act as an I&C Engineer for Sodium Fast Reactor technologies, responsible for system design, prototype development, testing, integration, and commissioning.
- Interface with a team of scientists and engineers both internal and external to company.
- Identify, specify, and integrate custom instrumentation with advanced control systems for Generation IV nuclear reactor technologies.
- Lead designs of I&C systems, structures, and components based on experience level.
- Provide technical oversight of I&C suppliers and review their deliverables.
- Develop and review system- and component-level specifications, analysis, and design evaluation in accordance with nuclear codes and standards.
- Create and manage design documentation such as System Requirements, Design Descriptions, Interface Control Documents, and Engineering Specifications.
- Generate detailed drawing packages including P&IDs, control system architecture, control logic diagrams, and instrument installation drawings.
- Support licensing activities related to Safety Analysis Reports.
- Lead coordination efforts across geographically diverse teams to develop design documentation.
- Support change analysis, configuration control, and continuous improvement of design processes.
- Provide technical guidance to engineers on applicable nuclear and non-nuclear standards.
- Assist with planning activities for established systems and analyze design changes.
- Lead design efforts of I&C and supporting electrical systems from functional requirements through final design.
- Interface with and support supplier projects, ensuring deliverables meet requirements.
- Maintain high standards of engineering quality and incorporate nuclear industry best practices.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and interface with licensing authorities.
- Support I&C design tasks in accordance with project schedules and budgets.
Requirements:
- B.S. or higher in Controls, Electrical, or related discipline from an accredited university with 10+ years of direct experience in instrumentation and controls systems.
- Proven experience in instrumentation and controls development, diagnostics, and delivering industrial I&C platforms.
- Experience with nuclear reactor safety systems or nuclear instrumentation systems design preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with IEEE and IEC standards desired.
- Knowledge of implementing design control and development per nuclear quality assurance standards (e.g., 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, ASME NQA-1).
- Experience designing high-temperature processes (400°C and higher) preferred but not required.
- Ability to handle projects with multiple conflicting objectives and resolve design conflicts.
- Familiarity with PFD and P&ID development; experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) preferred.
- Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation abilities.
- Self-starter with leadership skills and experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and support startup testing procedures (desired but not required).
- High level of integrity, openness, and team-oriented mindset.
- Ability to work on-site with minimal supervision.
- Physical ability to lift up to 15 pounds and perform repetitive work with good visual and audio acuity.
- Willingness to travel 0-25% as needed.
- Eligibility for U.S. export-controlled projects
