Summary Statement

Serves as the Division's senior hydrologic technical expert, providing advanced review of complex public water supply permitting and source water protection projects. Leads hydrogeologic evaluations, supports permitting modernization, develops technical guidance and performance metrics, and ensures compliance with state and federal water protection requirements. Provides technical leadership, mentoring, and quality assurance for hydrology staff, coordinates with federal, state, and local agencies, and contributes expert analysis to regulatory reform initiatives that improve permitting efficiency while protecting groundwater and community water supplies.

• Collects, analyzes, and interprets field samples, scientific literature and statistical data.
• Supervises and documents the installation of wells; inspects and compiles data regarding existing wells, waste disposal sites, and underground storage facilities.
• Summarizes data used in studies, projects, plans, specifications and research.
• Performs mathematical calculations to aid in the selection of alternatives.
• Reviews and comments on permit applications.
• Provides technical and regulatory information.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Hydrologist V
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

1. Possession of a Masters degree or higher in geology, hydrology or related field OR a Bachelors degree or higher in geology, hydrology or related field and registration as a Professional Geologist.
2. Possession of a Scientific prominence and recognition in geological or hydrological studies within a geographic region.
3. Three years experience in hydrogeology and stratigraphy.
4. Three years experience in analyzing and interpreting hydrogeologic data and making technical recommendations.
5. Three years experience in environmental or natural resources project management which includes planning, developing, implementing, managing and evaluating environmental or natural resources projects to ensure objectives are met.
6. Three years experience in interpreting environmental laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
