Classification & Regular Hours

Hours per Week: 35

Salary Grade: 14

The base salary will be $67,680 - $96,590 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate's experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

Responsibilities

The HR Specialist plays a key role in advancing Western Advancement's Talent Management strategy by partnering with leaders across the division to attract, develop, engage, and retain high-performing talent. The role serves as a trusted advisor on talent and workforce matters, supporting workforce planning, talent acquisition, employee development, and organizational effectiveness initiatives that enable the division to achieve its fundraising, alumni engagement, and operational goals. Through collaboration with leaders and Western Human Resources, the position helps foster a positive employee experience, build leadership capability, and implement people practices that strengthen employee engagement, performance, and long-term organizational success.

Qualifications

Education:
  • Undergraduate Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field
  • Completion of or working toward CHRL

Experience:
  • 5 years of experience in Human Resources and talent management, including full-cycle recruitment and talent sourcing
  • Experience recruiting in a fundraising environment preferred
  • Experience in a unionized environment preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of employment legislation and equitable hiring principles
  • Ability to build strong relationships with leaders and candidates
  • Ability to develop innovative sourcing strategies with a strong knowledge of best practices in recruitment and selection
  • Excellent project coordination and organizational skills with an ability to analyze recruitment metrics and identify trends
  • Ability to influence and coach leaders throughout recruitment processes
  • Knowledge of applicant tracking systems and HR information systems
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent recruitments while maintaining an exceptional candidate experience
  • Ability to work independently with a high attention to detail, and maintain direction and focus through proactive planning and organized approaches to work
  • Ability to produce high-quality results and workable solutions that meet client needs
  • Discretion, tact and maturity to deal with highly confidential subjects or issues
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and effectively communicate University guidelines, policies and practices to key stakeholders
