Overview

This position is with NYK Group America's Inc.

The Human Resources Manager leads day-to-day HR operations and supports the Director / Vice President of Human Resources in delivering consistent, compliant, and employee-focused HR services. The role manages core HR programs, advises managers on workforce matters, develops HR team capability, and collaborates with cross-functional and global stakeholders to support business objectives and organizational effectiveness.

Salary Range: $120k-$140k

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

HR OPERATIONS & COMPLIANCE
  • Manage HR operations, including payroll coordination, benefits administration, HR systems, employee services, workforce administration, and annual HR programs.
  • Maintain HR policies, procedures, records, and controls that support consistent, confidential, and compliant practices across the organization.
  • Partner with Legal, Finance, Payroll, external vendors, and advisors on employment compliance, audits, investigations, reporting, and risk management.

TALENT & WORKFORCE SUPPORT
  • Lead recruitment and onboarding activities and partner with hiring managers on workforce planning, candidate selection, and effective hiring decisions.
  • Coordinate offboarding, training, international assignment, immigration, and other workforce programs as assigned.

EMPLOYEE RELATIONS & ORGANIZATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS
  • Advise managers on employee relations, performance concerns, corrective actions, separations, conflict resolution, and organizational matters, escalating complex or sensitive issues appropriately.
  • Manage performance management, employee engagement, communications, training, and culture initiatives that strengthen organizational effectiveness and the employee experience.
  • Coordinate corporate-sponsored events and engagement activities that foster employee connection and support organizational culture.

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS & PAYROLL
  • Manage annual compensation planning and the administration of health, welfare, and retirement programs in coordination with Finance, Payroll, brokers, benefit providers, and advisors.
  • Ensure accurate employee communications, vendor coordination, reporting, renewals, audits, and day-to-day plan administration.

GLOBAL COLLABORATION & TEAM LEADERSHIP
  • Support regional and global HR initiatives and collaborate with overseas headquarters to align local execution with enterprise priorities and U.S. requirements.
  • Participate in occasional after-hours meetings with Tokyo headquarters and other Americas regional HR teams to support global collaboration, communication, and project implementation.
  • Lead, coach, and develop HR team members by establishing clear priorities, accountability, service standards, and functional capability.
  • Exercise sound judgment and discretion while balancing leadership responsibilities with practical execution in a dynamic environment.


Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Five or more years of progressive HR experience with broad responsibility across multiple HR disciplines.
  • Experience supervising HR staff or independently managing significant HR programs.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. employment practices, HR compliance, payroll coordination, benefits administration, talent acquisition, and employee relations.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain confidentiality, and work effectively with leaders, employees, and external partners.
  • Ability to work primarily in the office, participate in occasional early morning or evening meetings with overseas headquarters, and travel up to 10%.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or a comparable professional HR certification.
  • Experience in a multi-state, multinational, or matrixed organization and collaborating with global headquarters.
  • Experience with UKG or a similar HR/payroll system, including system implementation, enhancement, or process optimization.
  • Experience supporting international assignments, organizational change, and cross-cultural workforce initiatives.
