Why This RoleTruce Law has built a functioning HR foundation - recruiting processes, JD templates, onboarding, and offboarding are in place. What this role adds is dedicated ownership: a single professional who holds all of it, keeps it current, and scales it as the firm grows. Payroll is transitioning from the Controller. Trainual needs a day-to-day steward. Compliance is actively managed with Vensure's HR professionals' support, but needs an internal owner to close gaps and keep pace with a firm that is doubling. If you want to own an HR function at a mission-driven law firm that is growing fast and investing in AI-augmented operations - this is that role.
ResponsibilitiesWhat You'll Do•
Own payroll end-to-end - processing, reconciliation, and employee inquiries - through Vensure, our PEO and payroll platform.
•
Manage the full recruiting lifecycle using our existing infrastructure: Wizehire, JD templates, and a structured interview process.
•
Partner with Vensure's dedicated HR professional to manage multi-state compliance across WA, CA, WI, GA, HI, OR - plus our Latin America-based EOR staff through Atlas Assistants / GSU.
•
Own day-to-day Trainual management - our policy library and Employee Handbook - and design role-based access architecture in partnership with the Operations Manager.
•
Manage offer letter workflows, bonus documentation, and the quarterly acknowledgment process for a 38-person team growing to 70+.
•
Own employee relations, performance documentation, and attorney licensing compliance - keeping the firm legally sound as it scales.
QualificationsWhat You Bring•
3-5+ years of HR generalist experience - you have owned payroll, recruiting, and compliance independently, not just supported them.
•
End-to-end payroll experience through a PEO or payroll platform. Vensure experience is strongly preferred. This is not a first-time payroll role.
•
Multi-state compliance experience or a track record of managing it alongside a PEO. We have staff in multiple states and an active compliance partnership with Vensure.
•
Strong process and documentation discipline - you can receive an existing function, document what isn't yet documented, and improve what exists.
•
AI fluency and trajectory - you use AI tools (Copilot, Claude, or comparable) in your current HR work and are actively investing in deeper integration. We care more about appetite than expertise.
Nice to Have•
Law firm or professional services experience - familiarity with attorney licensing, WSBA compliance, and CLE tracking is a plus.
•
Direct Vensure platform experience - candidates with Vensure knowledge will have a meaningful Day 1 advantage.
•
Familiarity with DocuSign and Trainual (or equivalent e-signature and LMS platforms).
•
SHRM-CP, PHR, SHRM-SCP, or SPHR certification.•
Local Seattle area location - preferred for hybrid in-office presence.
